Abstract
Description
本願は、2011年3月4日に出願され「ペイメントカードシステムおよび方法(PAYMENT CARD SYSTEM AND METHOD)」と題された米国仮出願第61/449,473号の優先権を主張し、すべての目的においてその全体が本明細書に引用により援用される。
カード発行業者の上層の顧客に好まれるよう外観および手触りが改良されたペイメントカードに対する需要がある。発行業者の一部が実践している1つの取組として、金属カードの製造が挙げられる。しかしながら、金属カードを使用すると、使用中の静電気放電(ESD)の問題が生じる可能性がある。ESDは、電位が異なる2つのものの間に突然一瞬流れる電流に関係があり、直接の接触によって生じるかまたは静電界によって誘起される。ペイメントカードがアクセス装置(たとえば売場専用端末)と対話して取引を行なうときに、ESDが一時的な中断または端末に対する永久的なダメージを引起し得ることは、周知である。金属カードは、その電気的特性が原因で、支払取引を妨害するかまたは売場専用端末にダメージを与える可能性があるESD事象を生じさせる傾向がある。
本発明の実施の形態は、ペイメントカードおよびペイメントカードの製造方法に関する。
本発明の実施の形態は、金属の外観および手触りを備え既存の金属のペイメントカードの静電気放電の問題を伴わないペイメントカードおよびペイメントカードの製造方法に向けられている。
(1)アクセス装置と接触する磁気ストライプまたはその他の導電要素のキャパシタンスは、約2.0ピコファラド(上記第1のテスト手順によって得られた測定値)未満のインダクタンスを有することができる。
(2)ペイメントカード上に設けられた非接触素子のキャパシタンスは、約5.0ピコファラド(上記第1のテスト手順によって得られた測定値)未満のインダクタンスを有することができる。
(3)ペイメントカードの通常動作後の放電電流は、約250ミリアンペア(上記第2のテスト手順によって得られた測定値)未満であることができる。
(4)ペイメントカードが約10キロボルトに帯電させられたときの放電電流は、約250ミリアンペア(上記第2のテスト手順によって得られた測定値)未満であることができる。
(5)ペイメントカードが約10キロボルトに帯電させられたときの放電エネルギは、約15ナノジュール(上記第2のテスト手順によって得られた測定値)未満であることができる。
(6)ペイメントカードが約10キロボルトに帯電させられたときの、アクセス装置と接触する磁気ストライプまたはその他の導電要素の放電エネルギは、約500ナノジュール(上記第2のテスト手順によって得られた測定値)未満であることができる。
(7)ピーク電流放電(Ip)が約20キロボルトのときの磁気ストライプの動的抵抗は、約5.0キロオーム(上記第3のテスト手順によって得られた測定値)よりも大きい動的抵抗であることができる。
(8)ペイメントカードをさまざまな種類の衣服素材に当てて擦った後の放電電流は、約250ミリアンペア(上記第4のテスト手順によって得られた測定値)未満であることができる。
C.W. Brabender(登録商標)の混合ツールの中で、以下の成分を155℃で10分間混ぜ合わせた。(a)20グラムのPVC粉末(グレードOV155、Oxyvinyls製造)。(b)0.2グラムの熱安定剤(Mark 292、Gallade Chemical製造)。(c)1グラムのフタル酸ジオクチル可塑剤。(d)200グラムのタングステン粉末(Technon(商標)、Tungsten Heavy Powders製造)。タングステン粒子の、おおよその直径は40ミクロン以上、おおよその粒度分布は100〜400メッシュであった。
Claims (22)
- 第1層と、
前記第1層に隣接する第2層とを備え、前記第2層は金属を含む複数の粒子を含み、前記複数の粒子はさらに、前記第2層の少なくとも約15体積%を構成する、カード。 - 前記第2層はポリマーをさらに含む、請求項1に記載のカード。
- 前記複数の粒子は外側被膜をさらに含む、請求項1に記載のカード。
- 前記金属はタングステンを含む、請求項1に記載のカード。
- 前記ポリマーはポリ塩化ビニルを含む、請求項2に記載のカード。
- 前記第1層はポリマーを含む、請求項1に記載のカード。
- 前記第2層に隣接する第3層をさらに備え、前記第3層はポリマーを含む、請求項1に記載のカード。
- 前記カードは、長さが約86ミリメートル、幅が約54ミリメートル、厚さが約0.7〜0.9ミリメートルである、請求項1に記載のカード。
- 前記カードは、磁気ストライプおよび非接触素子をさらに備える、請求項1に記載のカード。
- 前記カードは、前記カードが約10キロボルトに帯電させられアクセス装置と対話しているときに約1000ミリアンペア未満のピーク電流放電を示すように構成される、請求項9に記載のカード。
- 前記カードがアクセス装置と対話するとき、
前記カードは、前記カードが約10キロボルトに帯電させられた場合約15ナノジュール未満の放電エネルギを示すように構成され、
前記磁気ストライプは、ピーク電流放電約10キロボルトの場合約1キロオームよりも大きい動的抵抗を示し、約2ピコファラド未満のキャパシタンスを示し、前記磁気ストライプが約10キロボルトに帯電させられた場合約500ナノジュール未満の放電エネルギを示すように構成され、
前記非接触素子は、約5ピコファラド未満のキャパシタンスを示すように構成される、請求項10に記載のカード。 - カードの製造方法であって、
混合物を調製するステップを含み、
前記混合物は金属を含む複数の粒子とポリマーとを含み、前記複数の粒子はさらに、前記混合物の少なくとも約15体積%を構成し、
前記混合物をプレスするステップと、
外層を前記混合物の表面に与えるステップと、
前記混合物と前記与えられた外層を切断してカードを形成するステップとを含む、方法。 - 前記混合物は可塑剤と熱安定剤とをさらに含む、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 前記混合物を調製するステップの前に、外側被膜を前記複数の粒子に与えるステップをさらに含む、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 前記金属はタングステンを含む、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 前記ポリマーはポリ塩化ビニルを含む、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 前記外層はポリマーを含む、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 前記混合物は約120〜200℃のプロセス温度で調製される、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 前記混合物は約5〜20トン/平方フィートの圧力でプレスされる、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 前記外層は顔料をさらに含む、請求項17に記載の方法。
- 前記外層は磁気ストライプをさらに含む、請求項17に記載の方法。
- 非接触素子を前記カードに追加するステップをさらに含む、請求項12に記載の方法。
