Abstract
【解決手段】液晶表示装置1の複数の画素は、縦方向に長い多角形である。画素は、多角形の側辺と平行な中央線で2分され、中央線に対して線対称である。画素電極9a,9bは、中央線に対して線対称に分けられる。画素電極9a,9bの表面には、中央線へ向かう長手方向を持つスジが形成される。共通電極8a,8bは、中央線に対して線対称に分けられる。共通電極8a,8bの横方向の位置は、画素電極9a,9bに対して中央線から離れる方向にずれている。配向膜10は、液晶分子L1〜L12の長手方向を、垂直方向から共通電極8a,8bが画素電極9a,9bからずれている方向に傾斜させるように、液晶分子L1〜L12にプレチルト角θを付与する。

Description
本実施形態においては、液晶分子を高精度に傾斜させ、液晶駆動を高速化するための画素形状及び電極形状について説明する。
本実施形態においては、多角形画素形状の変形例であり、平行四辺形状の画素について説明する。
本実施形態においては、多角形画素形状の変形例であり、「V」字状の画素について説明する。
本実施形態においては、多角形画素形状の変形例であり、六角形状の画素について説明する。
本実施形態においては、上記第1から第4の実施形態に係るカラーフィルタ基板3に用いられる透明樹脂及び有機顔料などについて例示する。
ブラックマトリクスBM、カラーフィルタ13の形成に用いられる感光性着色組成物は、顔料分散体に加え、多官能モノマー、感光性樹脂又は非感光性樹脂、重合開始剤、溶剤などを含有する。例えば、感光性樹脂及び非感光性樹脂などのような、本実施形態で用いることが可能な透明性の高い有機樹脂を総称して透明樹脂と呼ぶ。
本実施形態に用いるブラックマトリクスBMなどの遮光パターン、透明パターン、カラーフィルタ13の形成には、フォトリソグラフィによるパターン形成が可能な感光性樹脂組成物を用いることが好ましい。これらの透明樹脂は、アルカリ可溶性を付与された樹脂であることが望ましい。アルカリ可溶性樹脂として、カルボキシル基又は水酸基を含む樹脂を用いるとしてもよく、他の樹脂を用いるとしてもよい。アルカリ可溶性樹脂としては、例えば、エポキシアクリレート系樹脂、ノボラック系樹脂、ポリビニルフェノール系樹脂、アクリル系樹脂、カルボキシル基含有エポキシ樹脂、カルボキシル基含有ウレタン樹脂などを用いることができる。これらのうち、アルカリ可溶性樹脂としては、エポキシアクリレート系樹脂、ノボラック系樹脂、アクリル系樹脂を用いることが好ましく、特に、エポキシアクリレート系樹脂又はノボラック系樹脂が好ましい。
本実施形態で適用可能な透明樹脂の代表として、以下のアクリル系樹脂が例示される。
赤色顔料としては、例えば、C.I.Pigment Red 7、9、14、41、48:1、48:2、48:3、48:4、81:1、81:2、81:3、97、122、123、146、149、168、177、178、179、180、184、185、187、192、200、202、208、210、215、216、217、220、223、224、226、227、228、240、242、246、254、255、264、272、279などを用いることができる。
ブラックマトリクスBMの層に含まれる遮光性の色材は、可視光波長領域に吸収を有することにより遮光機能を示す色材である。本実施形態において遮光性の色材には、例えば、有機顔料、無機顔料、染料などを用いることができる。無機顔料としては、例えば、カーボンブラック、酸化チタンなどを用いることができる。染料としては、例えば、アゾ系染料、アントラキノン系染料、フタロシアニン系染料、キノンイミン系染料、キノリン系染料、ニトロ系染料、カルボニル系染料、メチン系染料などを用いることができる。有機顔料については、前記の有機顔料が採用可能である。なお、遮光性成分は、1種を用いてもよく、適当な比率で2種以上を組み合わせてもよい。また、これら色材の表面の樹脂被覆により高体積抵抗化が行われてもよく、逆に、樹脂の母材に対して色材の含有比率を上げて若干の導電性を付与することにより低体積抵抗化が行われてもよい。しかし、このような遮光性材料の体積抵抗値は、およそ1×108〜1×1015Ω・cmの範囲であるので、透明導電膜の抵抗値に影響するレベルではない。同様に、遮光層の比誘電率も、色材の選択又は含有比率によっておよそ3〜20の範囲で調整できる。ブラックマトリクスBMの塗膜、着色画素の塗膜、透明樹脂層の比誘電率は、液晶表示装置1の設計条件及び液晶駆動条件に応じて、前記されている比誘電率の範囲内で調整できる。
Claims (6)
- マトリクス状に配置される複数の画素に対応する複数の画素電極及び複数の共通電極と、配向膜とを備えたアレイ基板と、
前記アレイ基板に対向し、前記複数の画素に対応する複数のカラーフィルタ及び複数の対向電極を備えたカラーフィルタ基板と、
前記アレイ基板と前記カラーフィルタ基板との間に備えられた液晶層と
を具備し、
前記複数の画素は、平面視で、横方向よりも縦方向に長い多角形であり、
前記画素は、前記平面視で、前記多角形の側辺と平行であり前記画素を2分する中央線に対して線対称であり、
前記画素電極は、前記平面視で、前記中央線に対して線対称に分けられており、
前記画素電極の前記液晶層側の表面には、前記平面視で、前記中央線へ向かう長手方向を持つ少なくとも一つのスジが形成されており、
前記共通電極は、前記平面視で、前記中央線に対して線対称に分けられており、
前記共通電極は、基板平面に対する垂直方向において、前記画素電極よりも液晶層から離れた位置に形成され、
前記共通電極の前記横方向の位置は、前記平面視で、前記画素電極に対して前記中央線から離れる方向にずれており、
前記液晶層は、負の誘電率異方性を持つ液晶分子を具備し、
前記配向膜は、前記液晶分子の長手方向を、前記垂直方向から前記共通電極が前記画素電極からずれている方向に傾斜させるように、前記液晶分子にプレチルト角を付与する
ことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記対向電極の前記横方向の位置は、前記平面視で、前記画素電極の前記横方向の位置とずれており、
前記対向電極が前記画素電極からずれている方向は、前記共通電極が前記画素電極からずれている方向と逆の方向である
ことを特徴とする請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記画素電極と前記共通電極とは、前記垂直方向に向かい合い、
前記画素電極と前記対向電極とは、前記垂直方向に向かい合い、
前記画素電極と前記共通電極との間に絶縁層をさらに具備し、
前記共通電極は、前記平面視で、前記画素電極からはみ出す部分と、前記画素電極と重なる部分とを具備し、
前記アレイ基板は、第1の透明基板の上に、前記共通電極、前記絶縁層、前記画素電極、前記配向膜を備えた構成を持ち、
前記カラーフィルタ基板は、第2の透明基板の上に、前記カラーフィルタ、透明樹脂層、対向電極を備えた構成を持つ
ことを特徴とする請求項1又は請求項2記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記スジの長手方向は、前記横方向に対して0°±45°の範囲の角度を持つことを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項3のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記カラーフィルタ基板は、前記複数の画素を区分けし、複数の画素開口領域を形成するブラックマトリクスをさらに具備し、
前記複数のカラーフィルタは、赤フィルタ、緑フィルタ、青フィルタを具備し、
前記画素開口領域には、前記赤フィルタ、前記緑フィルタ、前記青フィルタのいずれかが割り当てられる
ことを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項4のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記画素電極に液晶駆動電圧を印加するために用いられるアクティブ素子をさらに具備し、
前記アクティブ素子は、酸化物半導体薄膜トランジスタであり、
前記酸化物半導体薄膜トランジスタのチャネル材料は、複合金属酸化物である
ことを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項5のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
