Abstract
【解決手段】ローズマリー、ローズマリー抽出物、カフェ酸、コーヒー抽出物、ウコン抽出物、ククルミン、ブルーベリー抽出物、ブドウの種抽出物、ローズマリー酸、茶抽出物、及びそれらの混合物からなる群から選択される少なくとも一つのポリフェノールを含む組成物をコンパニオンアニマルに投与することによる眼の健康を増進する方法。

Description
本発明は、コンパニオンアニマルの眼の健康を増進する方法に関し、その方法は、ローズマリー、ローズマリー抽出物、カフェ酸、コーヒー抽出物、ウコン抽出物、ククルミン、ブルーベリー抽出物、ブドウの種抽出物、ローズマリー酸、茶抽出物、及びそれらの混合物からなる群から選択される少なくとも一つのポリフェノールを含む組成物をコンパニオンアニマルに投与することを含む。眼の健康としては、コンパニオンアニマルにおける環境ストレスの予防又は治療、加齢に伴うストレスの予防又は治療、白内障の進行の抑制、視力の向上、及び若い眼の維持を挙げることができる。
該組成物は、コンパニオンアニマルによって使用されるのに適している。本発明の組成物は、好ましくは眼の健康を増進するために投与される。本発明の組成物は、湿った組成物(即ち、製品の約16重量%〜約50重量%の全湿分含量を有するもの)、及び/又はぬれた組成物(即ち、製品の50重量%より多い全湿分含量を有するもの)、及び/又は乾燥した組成物(即ち、製品の約0重量%〜約16重量%の全湿分含量を有するもの)であることができる。本明細書において特に記載されていない限り、ぬれた組成物、湿った組成物及び/又は乾燥した組成物は、それらの組成又は調製方法によって制限されない。
組成物は、少なくとも一つのポリフェノールを含む。ポリフェノールは、ローズマリー抽出物、ローズマリー酸、コーヒー抽出物、カフェ酸、ウコン抽出物、ブルーベリー抽出物、ブドウの種抽出物、茶抽出物、及びそれらの混合物からなる群から選択される。
ローズマリー抽出物は、ポリフェノールである。ローズマリー又はローズマリー抽出物の構成要素は、カフェ酸及びローズマリー酸のようなカフェ酸の誘導体類である。これらの化合物は、酸化防止活性及び抗炎症効果を有する。カフェ酸は、水晶体上皮細胞の形質転換を抑制することによって後嚢混濁を防止する。
コーヒー抽出物は、ポリフェノールである。コーヒー抽出物の主な構成要素はカフェ酸であり、それが酸化防止活性を示すと考えられ、白内障を防止又は治療し得る。
ウコン抽出物は、ポリフェノールである。ウコン抽出物は、クルクミンである主要な活性化合物を含む香辛料である。クルクミンは、生物活性ポリフェノールの植物色素である。クルクミンは、反応性酸素種を除去し、酸化防止酵素であるGSH及びGSTの活性を高め、脂肪及びタンパク質の酸化を防止することによって酸化防止活性を有する。従って、ククルミンは脂肪過酸化及びタンパク質凝集を防止し、白内障の進行及び成熟の抑制をもたらす。加えて、ククルミンは、糖尿病性白内障に付随する浸透ストレスを最小化することができる。
ブルーベリー抽出物は、ポリフェノールである。ブルーベリー抽出物はアントシアニン類が豊富であり、アントシアニンは一重項酸素を急冷することによって酸化防止活性を示し、従って色素の光酸化を防止する。
ブドウの種抽出物は、ポリフェノールである。ブドウの種抽出物は、酸化防止活性を示すプロシアニジン類が豊富である。ブドウの種抽出物は、約38.5%のプロシアニジン類を含む。プロシアニジン類及びそれらの代謝産物は、それらの酸化防止活性によって白内障形成の進行の防止に役立ち、例えば、水晶体及び網膜微小血管系のLDL酸化を防止することである。プロシアニジン類はまた、ビタミンE節約効果も有する。
茶抽出物は、ポリフェノールである。茶抽出物は、その結果一重項酸素、超酸化物及びヒドロキシルラジカルのような活性酸素種を急冷するために酸化防止活性を有する。この急冷は、試験タンパク質の酸化架橋を防止し、全細胞におけるDNAの一本鎖切断を阻止する;酸化防止酵素の活性を保存することによって抗酸化防御系を強化する;アポトーシスを誘導することによって水晶体上皮細胞の増殖を阻止しグルコース代謝を向上させる。
本発明の組成物は、カロチノイドを含むことができる。「カロチノイド」は、高等植物類、藻類、細菌類及び菌類の組織内に発生する色素の部類である。それらは通常、黄色から深紅の結晶固体であり、油脂及び油に可溶であり、水に不溶であり、高融点であり、アルカリに安定であり、酸や酸化剤に不安定であり、それらの色は水素添加によって又は酸化によって容易に破壊され、一部のものは光学活性である。カロチノイド類は、光合成の間に光を吸収する色素として機能し、光増感から細胞を保護すると考えられる、植物及び微生物によって合成される天然色素である。構造上、カロチノイド類は、それらの配置が分子中央部で反転するように、8個のイソプレノイド単位を結合して構成される。カロチノイド類は、酸化バランスの維持に加えて生物活性が実証されている。カロチノイドの構造は、これらの化合物の物理的特性、化学的反応性及び生物学的機能に強く影響を与える。個々のカロチノイドの大きさ、形状、疎水性及び極性は、哺乳類における、生物学的利用能、吸収、循環、組織及び細胞下の分布及び排泄に劇的に影響を与える場合があることが示唆されている。
本発明の組成物は、アミノ酸を含むことができる。アミノ酸は、肉体の「構成要素」である。細胞を構成し、組織を修復する他に、アミノ酸は侵入するバクテリア及びウイルスと戦うための抗体を形成し;アミノ酸は酵素及びホルモン系の一員であり;アミノ酸は核タンパク質(RNA及びDNA)を構成し;アミノ酸は肉体全体に酸素を運び筋肉活動に関与する。タンパク質は消化作用により分解され、22個の既知のアミノ酸をもたらす。8個は必須(人体内にて製造できない)であり、残りは非必須(適正な栄養で人体にて製造できる)である。
本発明の組成物は、酸化防止剤を含むことができる。酸化防止剤は、組織における酸素の損傷効果を弱めることができる、酵素又はその他の有機分子である。その用語は、技術的には酸素と反応する分子に適用されるけれども、あらゆるフリーラジカルから防護する分子に適用される場合が多い。酸化防止剤が存在する場合、酸化防止剤は、ビタミンE、ビタミンC、ビタミンA、コエンザイムQ10、及びそれらの混合物からなる群から選択される。
本発明に記述のポリフェノールは、コンパニオンアニマルへの投与に適応する任意の組成物に添加されることができることが予期される。
本発明の組成物は、広範囲の他の任意成分を更に含むことができる。
本発明の組成物は、所望の組成物を製造及び処方するために好適である、いかなる既知の、ないしは有効な技法によっても調製されてよい。
(a)商業的に調製された又は購入されたポリフェノールを受け入れる工程と、
(b)該ポリフェノールと追加の成分とを重量によって組み合わせる工程と、
(c)該ポリフェノールと追加成分とをブレンドする工程と、
(d)該ポリフェノールと追加成分とを処理して組成物を形成する工程と、からなるプロセスを含む、組成物を製造することが有効である。
該方法としては、組成物中の総湿分含量の分析が挙げられる。該分析は、AOAC法930.15及びAACC法44−19に概説されている手順に基づく。

Claims (10)
- コンパニオンアニマルの眼の健康を増進するための組成物の製造における、ローズマリー抽出物、カフェ酸、コーヒー抽出物、ウコン抽出物、ククルミン、ブルーベリー抽出物、ブドウの種抽出物、ローズマリー酸、茶抽出物、及びそれらの混合物からなる群から選択される少なくとも一つのポリフェノールの使用。
- 前記眼の健康の増進が、環境ストレスの予防又は治療、加齢に伴うストレスの予防又は治療、白内障の進行の抑制、視力の向上、若い眼の維持、及びそれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択される、請求項1に記載の使用。
- 前記ポリフェノールが、ローズマリー抽出物、コーヒー抽出物、カフェ酸、及びローズマリー酸からなる群から選択される、請求項1又は2に記載の使用。
- 前記ポリフェノールが、0.01%〜90%、0.1%〜15%、及び1%〜10%で存在する、請求項1〜3のいずれか一項に記載の使用。
- 前記組成物が、リジン、タウリン、ヒスチジン、カルノシン、アラニン、システイン、及びそれらの混合物からなる群から選択されるアミノ酸を更に含む、請求項1〜4のいずれか一項に記載の使用。
- 前記組成物が、ルテイン、アスタキサンチン、ゼアキサンチン、ビキシン、リコピン、及びそれらの混合物からなる群から選択されるカロチノイドを更に含む、請求項1〜5のいずれか一項に記載の使用。
- 前記組成物が、ビタミンE、ビタミンC、ビタミンA、コエンザイムQ10、及びそれらの混合物からなる群から選択される酸化防止剤を更に含む、請求項1〜6のいずれか一項に記載の使用。
- 前記コンパニオンアニマルが、犬、猫、子猫、子犬、成犬、老犬、成猫、老猫からなる群から選択される、請求項1〜7のいずれか一項に記載の使用。
- 前記コンパニオンアニマルが、少なくとも6才の老犬又は少なくとも6才の老猫である、請求項8に記載の使用。
- 前記組成物が、栄養バランスがとれたペットフード組成物、ドッグフード、キャットフード、トリーツ、チュー、ビスケット、グレービー、ソース、飲料、補助水、及びそれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択される、請求項1〜9のいずれか一項に記載の使用。
