Abstract
【解決手段】液晶光学素子は、所定の領域毎に群を構成するように形成された透明な複数の帯状電極を備えた第1基板、透明な共通電極を備えた第2基板、及び、第1基板と第2基板との間に配置され、共通電極と帯状電極との間に印加される電圧によって所定の領域毎にリタデーション分布が制御される液晶層、を備えており、第1基板と第2基板との間において、所定の領域の境界に対応する部分には、壁状のスペーサが設けられており、スペーサの2つの壁面のうち少なくとも一方には、一定値の電圧が印加される遮蔽電極が設けられている。

本開示の液晶光学素子において、遮蔽電極に印加する電圧の値は設計に応じて適宜選択すればよい。印加する電圧の種類を削減するといった観点からは、共通電極および遮蔽電極には同じ一定値の電圧が印加される構成とすることが好ましい。
第1の実施形態は、本開示に係る液晶光学素子に関する。
所定の領域AL(ALL3,ALL2,ALL1,ALC,ALR1,ALR2,ALR3)毎に群を構成するように形成された透明な複数の帯状電極112(112A,112B,112C,112D)を備えた第1基板110A、
透明な共通電極115を備えた第2基板110B、及び、
第1基板110Aと第2基板110Bとの間に配置され、共通電極115と帯状電極112との間に印加される電圧によって所定の領域AL毎にリタデーション分布が制御される液晶層114、
を備えている。
先ず、第1基板110A上に、図示せぬ給電線111を周知の方法に基づき形成する。次いで、給電線111上を覆い、給電線111と帯状電極112とのコンタクトとなる部分に開口を設けた図示せぬ絶縁膜を周知の方法に基づき形成する。
その後、帯状電極112を含む全面に、例えばポリイミド材料から成る配向膜113を周知の方法に基づき形成し、その表面に周知の方法によりラビング処理を施す。ラビング処理の方向はZ方向である。
次いで、第2基板110B上に、感光性の透明な高分子材料層116’を形成する(図7の(A))。その後、この高分子材料層116’を周知の方法により領域ALの境界に対応する部分を残すようにパターニングすることで、スペーサ116を形成することができる(図7の(B))。
次いで、スペーサ116を含む第2基板110Bの全面に、例えばITOから成る導電材料層を周知の方法に基づき形成する。これによって、共通電極115とスペーサ116の壁面上の遮蔽電極115Sを一体の電極として形成することができる。
そして、上記工程を経た第1基板110Aと第2基板110Bを、液晶材料を挟んだ状態で対向させ、周囲を封止することによって、液晶光学素子1を得ることができる。液晶層114に電圧が印加されていない状態にあっては、図に示すように、液晶分子114Aは長軸がZ方向を向くように配向する。
第2の実施形態も、本開示に係る液晶光学素子に関する。

(4)液晶光学素子は共通電極と帯状電極との間に印加される電圧によって制御されるフレネルレンズとして動作する上記(1)から(3)のいずれかに記載の液晶光学素子。
(5)液晶光学素子は共通電極と帯状電極との間に印加される電圧によって制御されるフレネルプリズムとして動作する上記(1)から(3)のいずれかに記載の液晶光学素子。
(6)帯状電極は一方向に伸びる直線状に形成されている上記(1)乃至(5)のいずれかに記載の液晶光学素子。

- 所定の領域毎に群を構成するように形成された透明な複数の帯状電極を備えた第1基板、
透明な共通電極を備えた第2基板、及び、
第1基板と第2基板との間に配置され、共通電極と帯状電極との間に印加される電圧によって所定の領域毎にリタデーション分布が制御される液晶層、
を備えており、
第1基板と第2基板との間において、所定の領域の境界に対応する部分には、壁状のスペーサが設けられており、
スペーサの2つの壁面のうち少なくとも一方には、一定値の電圧が印加される遮蔽電極が設けられている液晶光学素子。 - 共通電極および遮蔽電極には同じ一定値の電圧が印加される請求項1に記載の液晶光学素子。
