本発明は、医療用具に好適に用いられるゆっくりとした吸収性及び生体適合性の繊維ガラス組成物を提供する。分解性ガラスの吸収は、組成、及び体積に対する表面の比、すなわち、生理環境による表面浸食に依存する。繊維の体積に対する大きな表面比のために、アルカリ及びアルカリ土類金属イオンの生理環境への放出が不所望に速くなり得る。したがって、ガラスの吸収速度並びにアルカリ及びアルカリ土類金属イオンの生理環境への放出を把握し制御し得ることが重要である。生体活性繊維ガラスは、アルカリ交換反応により水溶液と接触すると直ちに反応し始める。すなわち、ガラス中のナトリウム及びカリウムイオンが、溶液の水素イオンによって置き換えられる。急速な高分解性は、その緩衝能力にもかかわらず、望ましくない高い値に、周りの間質液のpHを局所的に増加するだろう。さらに、生体液は、比較的高い含有量のナトリウムを含むが、カリウムイオンの含有量は低い。したがって、ガラスからのカリウムイオンの急速な浸出は、ナトリウムイオンの浸出よりも、局所的な生体液組成に、より高い相対的影響を有しやすい。すなわち、アルカリ金属イオンは、有害な高い局所的pH上昇に関与し、また、所定の場合に、カリウムが、神経毒性及び細胞毒性作用による生理的問題を引き起こし得る。

- 前記繊維が疑似体液(SBF)中にin vitroで完全に吸収される時間であって、+37℃にて浸漬溶解させることによって決定される吸収速度を用いた吸収カーブの直線部分を用いて計算される時間が、1〜100ヶ月、好ましくは2〜45ヶ月、より好ましくは3〜15ヶ月、さらに好ましくは4〜70ヶ月、さらにより好ましくは5〜30ヶ月、最も好ましくは6〜15ヶ月であることを特徴とする、請求項5に記載の繊維。
- 前記繊維の太さが、300μm未満、好ましくは1〜75μm、より好ましくは5〜30μm、さらに好ましくは10〜25μm、さらにより好ましくは10〜20μm、最も好ましくは約15μmであることを特徴とする、請求項5または6に記載の繊維。
- 前記繊維の引張り強度が0.7〜3GPa、好ましくは0.9〜2.5GPa、より好ましくは1.0〜2.0GPa、最も好ましくは1.5〜2.0GPaであることを特徴とする、請求項5、6、または7に記載の繊維。
- 請求項5〜8のいずれか一項に記載の繊維を含む医療用具。
- 前記用具が、請求項5〜8のいずれか一項に記載の短及び/若しくは長繊維に完全に基づいたものであるか、若しくは前記短及び/若しくは長繊維を含み;並びに/または請求項5〜8のいずれか一項に記載の繊維を含む任意の種類のテキスタイル、織布、若しくは不織布であることを特徴とする、請求項9に記載の医療用具。
- 用具が、生体内で用いられる任意の種類のインプラント、好ましくは、関節インプラント、内部/外部固定用具、ステント、ピン、くぎ、スクリュー、スパイク、スタッド、プレート、並びに組織または骨の治療及び/または再生をサポートするための用具からなる群から選択されることを特徴とする、請求項9または10に記載の医療用具。
- 請求項4〜7のいずれか一項に記載の繊維の量が、前記医療用具の繊維の全体積の10体積%超、好ましくは40体積%超、より好ましくは60体積%超、最も好ましくは90体積%超である、請求項9、10、または11に記載の医療用具。
- 前記繊維が、連続ポリマーマトリックス中に埋め込まれている、請求項9〜12のいずれか一項に記載の医療用具。
- 前記マトリックスポリマーが、ポリグリコリド(PGA); グリコリド/L−ラクチドコポリマー(PGA/PLLA)、グリコリド/トリメチレンカーボネートコポリマー(PGA/TMC)等のグリコリドのコポリマー; ポリラクチド(PLA); ポリ−L−ラクチド(PLLA)、ポリ−DL−ラクチド(PDLLA)、L−ラクチド/DL−ラクチドコポリマー等のPLAのステレオコポリマー; ラクチド/テトラメチルグリコリドコポリマー、ラクチド/トリメチレンカーボネートコポリマー、ラクチド/d−バレロラクトンコポリマー、ラクチド/ε−カプロラクトンコポリマー等のPLAの他のコポリマー; ラクチド/グリコリド/トリメチレンカーボネートターポリマー、ラクチド/グリコリド/ε−カプロラクトンターポリマー、PLA/ポリエチレンオキシドコポリマー等のPLAのターポリマー; ポリデプシペプチド; 非対称3,6−置換型ポリ−1,4−ジオキサン−2,5−ジオン; ポリヒドロキシブチレート(PHB)等のポリヒドロキシアルカノエート; PHB/b−ヒドロキシバレレートコポリマー(PHB/PHV); ポリ−b−ヒドロキシプロピオネート(PHPA); ポリ−p−ジオキサノン(PDS); ポリ−d−バレロラクトン; ポリ−ε−カプロラクトン; メチルメタクリレート−N−ビニルピロリドンコポリマー; ポリエステルアミド; シュウ酸のポリエステル; ポリジヒドロピラン; ポリアルキル−2−シアノアクリレート; ポリウレタン(PU); ポリビニルアルコール(PVA); ポリペプチド; ポリ−b−リンゴ酸(PMLA); ポリ−b−アルカン酸; ポリカーボネート; ポリオルトエステル; ポリホスフェート; ポリ(エステル無水物)、及びそれらの混合物または熱硬化性樹脂からなる群から選択される少なくとも1つのポリマー; 並びに好ましくはポリ(ε−カプロラクトン)、ポリ(ε−カプロラクトン−L−ラクチド)コポリマー、ポリラクチド−co−グリコリド、及びポリラクチドからなる群から選択される少なくとも1つのポリマーを含むことを特徴とする、請求項13に記載の医療用具。

- 医療用具を製造するための、請求項5〜8のいずれか一項に記載の繊維の使用。
