Description
ユーザーに入手可能なコンテンツの多様性は、増々増大しつつある。例えば、ユーザーはテレビジョン番組を見ることができる。テレビジョン番組は、俳優、ディレクタ等を識別する等のために、メタデータが関連付けられていることがある。しかしながら、コンテンツおよびメタデータを提供するために用いられていた従前からの技法は、コンテンツ自体の消費によって混乱させられたり、および/または妨害されることが多かった。
図1は、表示されるコンテンツと関連付けられたメタデータを配信するために全般的な遠隔技法を採用して動作可能な実施態様の一例における環境100の図である。図示する環境100は、ネットワーク運営業者の1つ又は複数のヘッド・エンド102(m)(「m」は1から「M」までのいずれの整数でも可能である)、クライアント・デバイス104、およびコンテンツ供給業者106を含み、これらはネットワーク接続108、110を通じて互いに通信状態で結合されている。以下の論述では、ヘッド・エンド102(m)ならびにクライアント・デバイス104およびコンテンツ供給業者106は1つ又は複数のエンティティを代表することができる。したがって、1つのエンティティ(例えば、クライアント・デバイス104)または多数のエンティティ(例えば、クライアント・デバイス群104、複数のクライアント・デバイス104等)に言及することもある。加えて、複数のネットワーク接続108、110は別々に示されているが、ネットワーク接続108、110は、1系統のネットワークまたは多系統のネットワークを用いて達成されるネットワーク接続を代表することができる。例えば、ネットワーク接続108は、バック・チャネル通信を有するブロードキャスト・ネットワーク、インターネット・プロトコル(IP)ネットワーク等を代表することができる。
[0034] 尚、図1に示したエンティティの1つ又は複数は、更に分割すること(例えば、ヘッド・エンド102(m)は分散型計算システムにおける複数のサーバーによって実現することができる)、組み合わせること(例えば、ヘッド・エンド102(m)はメタデータ116を発生する機能を組み込むことができる)等ができ、したがって、図1の環境100は、記載した技法を用いることができる複数の異なる環境の1つを表すことを注記しておく。
Claims (20)
- クライアント・デバイス(104)において、
コンテンツ(114(n))および関連するメタデータ(116)をブロードキャストにおいて受信するステップと、
前記クライアント・デバイス(104)に通信状態で結合されているリモート・デバイス(126)からの現在のブロードキャストに関するメタデータの要求を識別するステップと、
前記要求に関連があるメタデータ(116)を特定するために前記要求を分析するステップと、
前記リモート・デバイス(126)に、前記要求に関連のあるメタデータを表示させるために、前記識別した要求に対応するメタデータ(116)を前記リモート・デバイス(126)に出力するステップと、
を備えている、方法。 - 請求項1記載の方法において、前記識別するステップおよび前記出力するステップは、前記コンテンツおよび関連するメタデータを受信しながら、リアル・タイムで実行する、方法。
- 請求項1記載の方法であって、更に、前記コンテンツおよび前記関連のあるメタデータを前記クライアント・デバイスにおけるストレージに格納するステップを備えており、前記識別するステップおよび前記出力するステップは、前記コンテンツおよび関連のあるメタデータを格納しながら実行する、方法。
- 請求項1記載の方法であって、更に、前記コンテンツおよび前記関連のあるメタデータを前記クライアント・デバイスにおけるストレージに格納するステップを備えており、前記識別するステップおよび前記出力するステップは、前記コンテンツおよび関連のあるメタデータを前記ストレージから出力しながら実行する、方法。
- 請求項1記載の方法において、前記リモート・デバイスは、前記クライアント・デバイスに通信状態で結合されており、前記クライアント・デバイスに、該クライアント・デバイスに局限される1つ又は複数の機能を実施させる、方法。
- 請求項1記載の方法において、前記コンテンツおよび前記関連のあるメタデータは、前記クライアント・デバイスにネットワーク運営業者のヘッド・エンドからストリーミングされる、方法。
- 請求項1記載の方法において、前記識別するステップおよび前記出力するステップは、前記リモート・デバイスの各々がそれぞれの好みに特定的な前記メタデータを受信するように、複数の前記リモート・デバイスに対して実行される、方法。
- リモート・デバイス(126)において、
前記リモート・デバイス(126)とクライアント・デバイス(104)との間に永続的ネットワーク接続を設けるステップと、
前記クライアント・デバイス(104)において現在のブロードキャストにおいて出力されているコンテンツ(114(n))と関連のあるメタデータ(116)の要求を形成するステップと、
前記リモート・デバイス(126)に、前記要求に関連のある情報を表示させるために、前記識別した要求に対応するメタデータ(116)を前記リモート・デバイス(126)に出力するステップと、
を備えている、方法。 - 請求項8記載の方法において、前記リモート・デバイスと前記クライアント・デバイスとの間におけるネットワーク接続は、ユーザーの介入なくして前記リモート・デバイスと前記クライアント・デバイスとの間のネットワーク接続が自動的に設けられるように、永続的である、方法。
- 請求項8記載の方法において、
前記接続を設けるステップは、複数の前記クライアント・デバイスに対して実行され、
前記ネットワーク接続は、前記リモート・デバイスと前記クライアント・デバイスの各々との間における前記ネットワーク接続が自動的に設けられるように、永続的である、方法。 - 請求項8記載の方法において、前記リモート・デバイスは、前記クライアント・デバイスに、該クライアント・デバイスに局限される1つ又は複数の機能を実施させるように構成されている、方法。

前記コンテンツおよび前記メタデータは、ネットワーク運営業者のヘッド・エンドから前記クライアント・デバイスにストリーミングされ、

前記特定の時点を記述する情報を受信するステップと、
前記特定の時点に対応するコンテンツ(114(n))を読み出すために前記情報を用いるステップと、
前記リモート・デバイス(126)において、前記特定の時点に対応するコンテンツ(114(n))を出力するステップと、
