Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an organic EL device and an electronic apparatus.
Conventionally, there has been known an organic EL (Electro Luminescence) element in which a light emitting layer made of an organic material is interposed between a pair of electrodes, and the light emitting layer can emit light by applying a voltage between the pair of electrodes. Yes. An organic EL device having a plurality of organic EL elements has been used as a display device for displaying an image.
In such an organic EL device, a liquid material containing a light emitting layer forming material is placed on a substrate by a droplet discharge method, and then the liquid material is dried to form a light emitting layer of each organic EL element. There is a known method (see, for example, Patent Document 1).
By the way, in the organic EL element, in the light emitting layer formed by a coating method such as a droplet discharge method, the cross-sectional shape is a concave shape that is concave toward the substrate side, or a convex shape that is convex toward the opposite side of the substrate. May form. When the cross-sectional shape is concave or convex, the light emitting layer may have a film thickness distribution having a thick part and a thin part. If the light emitting layer has a thick portion and a thin portion, a difference in luminance tends to occur between the thick portion and the thin portion.
That is, the conventional organic EL element has an unsolved problem that it is difficult to reduce luminance unevenness. 13A to 13C are cross-sectional views of the organic EL element showing this state. In the droplet discharge method, a functional liquid containing a light emitting material is discharged into a recess formed by the
In the above-mentioned Patent Document 1, the protrusion width of the first partition wall from the second partition wall is changed to cope with the change in the film shape due to the difference in ink properties. There is a problem with dealing with ink.
SUMMARY An advantage of some aspects of the invention is to solve at least a part of the problems described above, and the invention can be implemented as the following forms or application examples.
Application Example 1 An organic EL device having a plurality of light emitting regions, which is formed on at least a part of a substrate and one of the surfaces of the substrate excluding the plurality of light emitting regions. Barrier ribs formed so as to surround each of the light emitting regions, and a functional layer that is disposed in an opening surrounded by the barrier ribs and at least a part of the surface is inclined with respect to a plane parallel to the substrate And a light emitting layer disposed on the functional layer and having a surface substantially parallel to the surface of the functional layer, wherein the partition wall has a first portion and a second portion, and the first portion is An organic EL device having a plurality of different film thicknesses in the substrate surface.
According to this, even if the surface of the light emitting layer has a convex shape, a concave shape, or an uneven shape due to the balance of surface energy, the functional layer formed on the substrate side of the light emitting layer has the same surface shape as this. As a result, the surface of the light emitting layer is flattened or the thickness of the light emitting layer is substantially uniform in each light emitting region. For this reason, an organic EL device having good optical characteristics with no variation in transmittance in the light emitting region can be obtained. Here, “on the substrate” is not a concept indicating only the surface of the substrate, and other components such as other thin films may be formed between the substrate and the functional layer, for example. In addition, in this paper, “a plane parallel to the substrate” means “a plane parallel to the plane when the surface of the substrate is viewed macroscopically”, and it is assumed that fine irregularities are provided on the substrate surface. But these are not taken into account.
Application Example 2 In the above organic EL device, the first portion is composed of a plurality of layers having different characteristics, and has a plurality of different numbers of layers in the substrate surface.
According to this, even if the surface of the light emitting layer has a convex shape, a concave shape, or an uneven shape due to the balance of the surface energy, the functional layer surface on which the light emitting layer is formed has the same shape as this. As a result of being easily controlled, the thickness of the light emitting layer is substantially uniform within each light emitting region. For this reason, an organic EL device having good optical characteristics with no variation in transmittance in the light emitting region can be obtained.
Application Example 3 In the organic EL device, the functional layer includes a plurality of different inclined surfaces in the substrate surface.
According to this, even if the surface of the light emitting layer has a convex shape, a concave shape, or an uneven shape due to the balance of surface energy, the substrate surface on which the light emitting layer is formed has the same shape as this. As a result, the film thickness of the light emitting layer is substantially uniform within each light emitting region. For this reason, an organic EL device having good optical characteristics with no variation in transmittance in the light emitting region can be obtained.
Application Example 4 In the above organic EL device, the inclined surface is formed to be curved in a convex shape having a vertex near the center of the light emitting region.
According to this, even if the organic EL device is manufactured under conditions where the surface of the light emitting layer tends to be convex, the film thickness of the light emitting layer can be made substantially uniform in each light emitting region. The above conditions depend on parameters such as the height of the partition walls, the volume of the light emitting layer, and the drying speed when forming the light emitting layer.
Application Example 5 In the organic EL device described above, the inclined surface is formed in a concave shape with the vicinity of the central portion of the light emitting region as a bottom.
According to this, even in the organic EL device manufactured under the condition that the surface of the light emitting layer tends to be concave, the bottom of the concave portion is concaved by the functional layer in advance, so that the thickness of the light emitting layer is set to each light emitting layer. It can be made substantially uniform within the region. The above conditions depend on parameters such as the height of the partition walls, the volume of the light emitting layer, and the drying speed when forming the light emitting layer.
Application Example 6 In the organic EL device, the inclined surface is formed flat.
According to this, even in the organic EL device manufactured under the condition that the surface of the light emitting layer is likely to be flat, the bottom of the concave portion is flattened by the functional layer in advance, so that the film thickness of the light emitting layer is set to each pixel. Can be made substantially uniform. The above conditions depend on parameters such as the height of the partition walls, the volume of the light emitting layer, and the drying speed when forming the light emitting layer.
Application Example 7 In the organic EL device described above, the inclined surface is different depending on the molecular weight of the light emitting layer.
Application Example 8 In the organic EL device, the inclined surface is different between the vicinity of the central portion and the vicinity of the peripheral portion of the substrate.

Organic EL device.

The
The
The first
The second
The configuration of the first
As described above, the
The
The
(Droplet ejection device head)
As shown in FIGS. 5A and 5B, the
In addition, a plurality of
Now, each

The
The
The
The

The above-mentioned “
機能液42RAの分子量は80K(80×103)、機能液42GAの分子量は200K(200×103)、機能液42BAの分子量は400K(400×103)である。

Subsequently, oxygen plasma treatment, plasma treatment with carbon tetrafluoride gas, or the like is performed to impart lyophilicity to the
Next, in step S120, the
In subsequent step S130, the
Here, the shape of the
Therefore, in this embodiment, since the molecular weight of the material constituting the liquid composition to be discharged is different for each color of the organic
Next, in step S140, the
In subsequent step S150, the
Next, as step S160, the functional liquid 42RA is discharged onto the
The red organic
Similarly, in step S170, the functional liquid 42GA is discharged into different recesses in step S180, and in step S180, the functional liquid 42BA is discharged. FIG. 9B shows a state after the steps so far are completed. After each discharging step, vacuum drying is performed as in the case of the functional liquid 42RA.
In the subsequent step S190, the
Subsequently, the
Subsequently, the
Finally, the
Thereafter, the
According to the present embodiment, even if the surface of the organic
Here, the film shape (particularly the surface shape) of each layer formed in the
First, when a liquid composition having a different molecular weight is discharged onto a substrate having the
Considering based on such changes, it can be seen that the shape of the film can be variously controlled by the molecular weight of the liquid composition and the film thickness of the
(Second Embodiment)
In the above-described embodiment, the shape of the surface of the
Hereinafter, the
