Claims (4)
- 複数のピストン周溝(4)を有するピストン上部(1)を備え、前記ピストン周溝のうちの少なくとも燃焼室近くの最上位周溝(4a)が、境界層(6)により摩耗に対して防護され硬化された溝フランク(溝壁、5a、5b)を有している窒化物形成性基合金から成る往復動内燃機関におけるピストンにおいて、
摩耗に対して防護された周溝(4a、b、c)を有するピストン上部(1)の少なくとも外側面に、更に窒化層の形態をした他の摩耗・腐食防護層(7)が設けられ、該摩耗・腐食防護層(7)が、窒素雰囲気内ないし窒素・炭素雰囲気内におけるプラズマ窒化法あるいはプラズマニトロ浸炭法による窒化物形成基合金の転換によって発生され、これにより、硬化溝フランク(5a、b)が窒化層(7)で追加的に防護されていることを特徴とする往復動内燃機関におけるピストン。 - ピストン上部(1)の全外側面に窒化層(7)が設けられ、ピストン上部(1)の内側面は被覆されていないことを特徴とする請求項1に記載のピストン。
- 窒化層(7)が、硬化された溝フランク(5a、5b)において、硬化境界層(6)を含めて0.2mm〜1.0mmの厚さ(窒化硬化深さ)を有し、前記硬化溝フランク(5a、5b)がその上に形成された2μm〜15μmの厚さの化合層を有し、550HV(ビッカース硬さ)より大きな表面硬さを呈していることを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載のピストン。
- 窒化層(7)の形成前に、摩耗に対して防護された溝フランク(5a、b)が誘導式に硬化処理されていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のピストン。
