Description
Claims (37)
- 発光ダイオード(LED)パッケージであって、
軸を中心としたパターンで光を出力するLED構造と、
中心軸を有し、かつ前記LEDから光を受け取るように前記LED構造に対して位置付けされた光結合デバイスと
を備え、前記デバイスは、前記中心軸に対して実質的に円柱形の第1の誘電体境界面と反射面とを備え、前記第1の誘電体境界面は、前記LED構造からの光の第1の部分を受け取り、前記反射面の方に方向付け、前記反射面は、前記第1の誘電体境界面から前記光を受け取り、前記中心軸に対して実質的に垂直な方向で前記デバイスを出て行くように前記第1の誘電体境界面の方に方向付けることを特徴とする発光ダイオード(LED)パッケージ。 - 前記光結合デバイスは、前記LED構造からの光の第2の部分を受け取り、かつ前記中心軸に対して実質的に垂直な方向に前記デバイスから屈折させる第2の誘電体境界面をさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 前記第2の誘電体境界面は、凸状であることを特徴とする請求項2に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 前記反射面は、前記第1の誘電体境界面で画定された円柱の中に延びていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 前記反射面は、実質的に線状であり、かつ前記中心軸に対して斜めに傾いていることを特徴とする請求項4に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 前記反射面は、凹状であることを特徴とする請求項5に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 前記反射面は、
前記誘電体境界面から前記光の第1の部分を受け取る、前記中心軸に対して斜めに傾いた第1の部分と、
前記LED構造から光の別の部分を受け取り、前記中心軸に対して実質的に垂直な方向に前記第1の誘電体境界面に向けて方向付ける、前記中心軸に対して斜めに傾いた第2の部分と
を備えることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のLEDパッケージ。 - 前記反射面の前記第1の部分は、実質的に線状であることを特徴とする請求項7に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 前記反射面の前記第2の部分は、実質的に線状であることを特徴とする請求項7に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 前記反射面の前記第1の部分は、凸状であることを特徴とする請求項7に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 前記反射面の前記第2の部分は、凸状であることを特徴とする請求項7に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 前記第2の部分は、前記第1の部分と異なる角度で前記中心軸に対して斜めに傾いていることを特徴とする請求項7に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 前記反射面は、前記第1の誘電体境界面で屈折された光の部分を受け取り、前記中心軸に対して実質的に垂直な方向に前記中心軸から遠ざかるように方向付ける第3の部分をさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項7に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 前記反射面の前記第3の部分は、実質的に線状であることを特徴とする請求項13に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 前記反射面の前記第3の部分は、凹状であることを特徴とする請求項13に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 前記第3の部分は、前記反射面の前記第1の部分または前記第2の部分のいずれかと異なる角度で前記中心軸に対して斜めに傾いていることを特徴とする請求項13に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 前記第3の部分は、前記反射面の前記中心軸に対して実質的に垂直であることを特徴とする請求項13に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 前記LED構造は、基部構造と、前記基部構造の上のLEDとを備え、前記光結合デバイスは、前記LEDおよび前記基部構造の上に位置付けされていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 前記光結合デバイスは、前記LEDと直接接触していることを特徴とする請求項18に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 前記LEDと前記光結合デバイスとの間に体積が存在していることを特徴とする請求項18に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 前記体積は、前記光結合デバイスと実質的に同じ屈折率を有する材料で満たされていることを特徴とする請求項20に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 前記体積は、空気で満たされていることを特徴とする請求項20に記載のLEDパッケージ。
- 軸を中心としたパターンで光を出力する発光デバイスと共に使用するためのレンズであって、
中心軸に対して実質的に円柱形の第1の誘電体境界面と、
前記第1の誘電体境界面で画定された円柱の中に延びる内向き延長部分を有する反射面と
を備えることを特徴とするレンズ。 - 前記第1の誘電体境界面から外向きに延びる第2の誘電体境界面を前記第1の誘電体境界面の下にさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項23に記載のレンズ。
- 前記第2の誘電体境界面は、凸状であることを特徴とする請求項24に記載のレンズ。
- 前記反射面は、
前記中心軸に対して斜めに傾いた第1の部分と、
前記第1の部分と異なる角度で前記中心軸に対して斜めに傾いた第2の部分と
を備えることを特徴とする請求項23に記載のレンズ。 - 前記反射面の前記内向き延長部分は、前記第1の誘電体境界面を備える構造の一部として形成されていることを特徴とする請求項23に記載のレンズ。
- 前記反射面の前記内向き延長部分は、前記第1の誘電体境界面を備える構造と別個に形成されていることを特徴とする請求項23に記載のレンズ。
- 前記反射面は、前記第1の誘電体境界面に対して外向きに延びる外向き延長部分をさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項23に記載のレンズ。
- 前記反射面の前記外向き延長部分は、前記反射面の内向き延長部分と別個に形成されていることを特徴とする請求項29に記載のレンズ。
- 前記外向き延長部分は、反射性の下面を有する環状構造であることを特徴とする請求項30に記載のレンズ。
- 前記反射面の前記内向き延長部分および外向き延長部分は、前記第1の誘電体境界面を備える構造と別個に形成されていることを特徴とする請求項29に記載のレンズ。
- 前記反射面は、反射性の下面を有するカップ構造を備えることを特徴とする請求項32に記載のレンズ。
- 前記反射面の前記内向き延長部分および外向き延長部分は、前記第1の誘電体境界面を備える構造の一部として形成されていることを特徴とする請求項29に記載のレンズ。
- 発光デバイスからの光を方向付ける方法であって、
前記発光デバイスから、軸を中心としたパターンで光出力を発生させるステップと、
中心軸を有し、かつ前記LEDから光を受け取るように前記LED構造に対して位置付けされた光結合デバイスを使用して、前記光出力の方向を変えるステップと
を含み、前記デバイスは、前記中心軸に対して実質的に円柱形の第1の誘電体境界面、および反射面を備え、前記光の方向を変えるステップは、
前記LED構造からの光の第1の部分を前記第1の誘電体境界面で受け取り、前記反射面の方に方向付けるステップと、
前記第1の誘電体境界面から前記光を前記反射面で受け取り、前記中心軸に対して実質的に垂直な方向に前記第1の誘電体境界面に向けて方向付けるステップと
を含むことを特徴とする方法。 - 前記光結合デバイスは、第2の誘電体境界面をさらに備え、前記方法は、
前記LED構造からの光の第2の部分を受け取るステップと、
前記光の第2の部分を前記デバイスから前記中心軸に対して実質的に垂直な方向に屈折させるステップと
をさらに含むことを特徴とする請求項35に記載の方法。 - 前記反射面は、第3の部分をさらに備え、前記方法は、
前記第1の誘電体境界面または前記第2の誘電体境界面のいずれかで屈折された光の部分を受け取るステップと、
この光を前記中心軸に対して実質的に垂直な方向に前記中心軸から遠ざかるように方向付けるステップと
をさらに含むことを特徴とする請求項36に記載の方法。
