- 以下のシーケンスに従って、哺乳類の神経を電気的に変調するようにプログラムされたことを特徴とする埋め込み型パルス発生器。
第1刺激時間周期の第1ポーションの間に、第1刺激強度で前記神経に第1電気信号を提供すること、

- 前記第2刺激強度は、前記第1刺激強度よりも大きく、及び、前記第4刺激強度は、前記第3刺激強度よりも大きいように、さらに構成されたことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の埋め込み型パルス発生器。
- 以下のシーケンスに従って、哺乳類の神経を電気的に変調するようにプログラムされたことを特徴とする埋め込み型パルス発生器。
第1の複数のそれぞれの刺激時間周期の間に、先行する信号の刺激強度よりも大きい刺激強度を有する各々の第1の複数の信号である、時間的に連続する前記第1の複数の電気信号を提供すること、
その後、第1無刺激期間の間に、前記神経への電気刺激を中断又は大幅に減少すること、
その後、第2の複数のそれぞれの刺激時間周期の間に、先行する信号の刺激強度よりも大きい刺激強度を有する各々の第2の複数の信号である、時間的に連続する前記第2の複数の電気信号を提供すること、
その後、第2無刺激期間の間に、前記神経への電気刺激を中断又は大幅に減少すること。 - 前記埋め込み型パルス発生器は、前記神経を変調することがハードウェアにプログラムされていることを特徴とする請求項5に記載の埋め込み型パルス発生器。
- 前記埋め込み型パルス発生器は、前記神経を変調することがソフトウェアにプログラムされていることを特徴とする請求項5に記載の埋め込み型パルス発生器。
- 以下のシーケンスに従って、哺乳類の神経を電気的に変調するようにプログラムされたことを特徴とする埋め込み型パルス発生器。
1)第1時間及び第1刺激強度で前記神経を電気的に刺激すること、
2)その後、第2時間及び前記第1刺激強度よりも大きい第2刺激強度で、前記神経を電気的に刺激すること、
3)その後、前記神経における電気刺激を休止する期間又は前記神経における電気刺激が前記第2刺激強度よりも大幅に小さい期間を提供すること。 - 前記過程1)〜3)を繰り返すように、さらにプログラムされたことを特徴とする請求項8に記載の埋め込み型パルス発生器。
- 前記第2刺激強度は、前記第1刺激強度よりも大きく、及び、前記第4刺激強度は、前記第3刺激強度よりも大きいように、さらにプログラムされたことを特徴とする請求項8に記載の埋め込み型パルス発生器。
- 前記第2刺激強度が、前記第1刺激強度よりも約20%大きいように、さらにプログラムされたことを特徴とする請求項8に記載の埋め込み型パルス発生器。
- 前記第1時間が、約4時間〜約4日間であるように、さらにプログラムされたことを特徴とする請求項8に記載の埋め込み型パルス発生器。
- 前記第2時間が、約4時間〜約4日間であるように、さらにプログラムされたことを特徴とする請求項8に記載の埋め込み型パルス発生器。
- 前記期間が、約2日〜約7日間であるように、さらにプログラムされたことを特徴とする請求項8に記載の埋め込み型パルス発生器。
- 前記埋め込み型パルス発生器は、前記神経を変調することがハードウェアにプログラムされていることを特徴とする請求項8に記載の埋め込み型パルス発生器。
- 前記埋め込み型パルス発生器は、前記神経を変調することがソフトウェアにプログラムされていることを特徴とする請求項8に記載の埋め込み型パルス発生器。
- 哺乳類の神経を電気的に変調する方法であって、該方法は、
第1刺激時間周期の第1ポーションの間に、第1刺激強度で前記神経に第1電気信号を提供すること、
第1刺激時間周期の第2ポーションの間に、第2刺激強度で前記神経に第2電気信号を供給すること、
第1無刺激期間の間に、前記第2信号の前記供給を中断又は大幅に減少させること、
その後、第2刺激時間周期の第1ポーションの間に、第3刺激強度で前記神経に第3電気信号を提供すること、
第2刺激時間周期の第2ポーションの間に、第4刺激強度で前記神経に第4電気信号を供給すること、
第2無刺激期間の間に、前記第4信号の前記供給を中断又は大幅に減少させること、
を含んで構成されることを特徴とする方法。 - 前記第2刺激強度が、前記第1刺激強度よりも大きいことを特徴とする請求項17に記載の方法。
- 前記第4刺激強度が、前記第3刺激強度よりも大きいことを特徴とする請求項17に記載の方法。
- 前記第2刺激強度は、前記第1刺激強度よりも大きく、及び、前記第4刺激強度は、前記第3刺激強度よりも大きいことを特徴とする請求項17に記載の方法。
- 前記第3刺激強度は、前記第1刺激強度にほぼ等しいことを特徴とする請求項17に記載の方法。
- 前記第1無刺激期間の継続時間は、前記第2無刺激期間の継続時間にほぼ等しいことを特徴とする請求項17に記載の方法。
- 前記第1刺激期間の継続時間は、前記第2刺激期間の継続時間にほぼ等しいことを特徴とする請求項17に記載の方法。
- 前記第1刺激時間周期の前記第1ポーションの継続時間は、前記第1刺激時間周期の前記第2ポーションの継続時間にほぼ等しいことを特徴とする請求項17に記載の方法。
- 前記第2刺激時間周期の前記第1ポーションの継続時間は、前記第2刺激時間周期の前記第2ポーションの継続時間にほぼ等しいことを特徴とする請求項17に記載の方法。
- 前記哺乳類は、人間であることを特徴とする請求項17に記載の方法。
- 前記神経は、内臓神経であることを特徴とする請求項17に記載の方法。
- 前記神経は、脳神経であることを特徴とする請求項17に記載の方法。
- 前記神経は、迷走神経であることを特徴とする請求項17に記載の方法。
- 前記神経は、脊髄の中に位置することを特徴とする請求項17に記載の方法。
- 前記神経は、自律神経系においてあることを特徴とする請求項17に記載の方法。
- 前記神経は、運動神経線維を含んで構成されることを特徴とする請求項17に記載の方法。
- 神経を刺激する方法であって、該方法は、
第1の複数のそれぞれの刺激時間周期の間に、先行する信号の刺激強度よりも大きい刺激強度を有する各々の第1の複数の信号である、時間的に連続する前記第1の複数の電気信号を供給すること、
その後、第1無刺激期間の間に、前記神経への電気刺激を中断又は大幅に減少すること、
その後、第2の複数のそれぞれの刺激時間周期の間に、先行する信号の刺激強度よりも大きい刺激強度を有する各々の第2の複数の信号である、時間的に連続する前記第2の複数の電気信号を供給すること、
その後、第2無刺激期間の間に、前記神経への電気刺激を中断又は大幅に減少すること、
を含んで構成されることを特徴とする方法。 - 哺乳類の内臓神経を刺激する方法であって、該方法は、
1)第1時間及び第1刺激強度で前記神経を電気的に刺激すること、
2)その後、第2時間及び前記第1刺激強度よりも大きい第2刺激強度で、前記神経を電気的に刺激すること、
3)その後、前記神経における電気刺激を休止する期間又は前記神経における電気刺激が前記第2刺激強度よりも大幅に小さい期間を提供すること、
を含んで構成されることを特徴とする方法。 - 前記過程1)〜3)の繰り返しすこと、をさらに含んで構成されることを特徴とする請求項34に記載の方法。
- 前記期間の継続時間は、前記期間の間、前記哺乳類の体重増加を最小にするように又は体重減少を最大にするように構成されることを特徴とする請求項34に記載の方法。
- 前記第1時間と前記第2時間との間の少なくとも1つの追加時間で前記内臓神経を電気的に刺激すること、をさらに含んで構成されることを特徴とする請求項34に記載の方法。
- 前記第2刺激強度は、前記第1刺激強度よりも約1%〜約10,000%大きいことを特徴とする請求項34に記載の方法。
- 前記第2刺激強度は、前記第1刺激強度よりも約2%〜約1,000%大きいことを特徴とする請求項34に記載の方法。
- 前記第2刺激強度は、前記第1刺激強度よりも約4%〜約500%大きいことを特徴とする請求項34に記載の方法。
- 前記第2刺激強度は、前記第1刺激強度よりも約8%〜約100%大きいことを特徴とする請求項34に記載の方法。
- 前記第2刺激強度は、前記第1刺激強度よりも約10%〜約50%大きいことを特徴とする請求項34に記載の方法。
- 前記第2刺激強度は、前記第1刺激強度よりも約15%〜約30%大きいことを特徴とする請求項34に記載の方法。
- 前記第2刺激強度は、前記第1刺激強度よりも約20%大きいことを特徴とする請求項34に記載の方法。
- 前記第1刺激強度は、前記哺乳類の骨格筋攣縮の閾値にほぼ等しいことを特徴とする請求項34に記載の方法。
- 前記哺乳類は、人間であることを特徴とする請求項34に記載の方法。
- 前記第1時間は、約30秒〜約300日の間であることを特徴とする請求項34に記載の方法。
- 前記第1時間は、約1分〜約100日の間であることを特徴とする請求項34に記載の方法。
- 前記第1時間は、約5分〜約50日の間であることを特徴とする請求項34に記載の方法。
- 前記第1時間は、約30分〜約30日の間であることを特徴とする請求項34に記載の方法。
