Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an organic light emitting display, and more particularly to an organic EL display.
Examples of the full color method for organic EL display include, for example, a method in which three primary color organic EL elements are arranged in a predetermined pattern for each emission color, and a white light emission organic EL element is used to display through three primary color filter layers. A CCM system that uses a blue-emitting organic EL element, installs a color conversion phosphor layer (CCM layer) using a fluorescent dye, and converts blue light into green fluorescence or red fluorescence to display three primary colors (Patent Document 1) and the like have been proposed.
In such an organic EL display, light emitted from an organic EL element is transmitted to a laminated structure such as a color filter layer, a color conversion phosphor layer (CCM layer), a transparent substrate, etc., and displayed to an observer. Recognized as light.
In general, brightness is an important factor in displays, and the same applies to organic EL displays as described above. However, in the conventional organic EL display, in order to increase the luminance, it is necessary to increase the voltage / current applied per unit area, thereby increasing the power consumption and shortening the life of the organic EL element. There was a problem.
In addition, since light is emitted in all directions from the organic EL element as a light source, the use efficiency of the emitted light (light incident efficiency to the color filter layer and the color conversion phosphor layer) is lowered, and the luminance is reduced. It was hindering improvement. In addition, there is a problem that display quality is deteriorated due to light emission of different colors.
The present invention has been made in view of such circumstances, and an object thereof is to provide an organic EL display having high luminance and capable of high-quality display.
In order to achieve such an object, the present invention provides an organic EL element having at least a light emitting layer between electrodes, and a transparent substrate disposed on one surface side of the organic EL element via a microlens layer. The microlens layer comprises a plurality of convex lens elements arranged so as to form one plane, and a planarizing layer disposed so as to cover the convex lens elements. The refractive index was set to be larger than the refractive index of the planarizing layer.

(Formation of microlens layer)
A coating solution for forming a convex lens element in which an acrylate-based photocurable resin (V-259PA / PH5 manufactured by Nippon Steel Chemical Co., Ltd.) is diluted with propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate is applied onto the color conversion phosphor layer. The film was applied at a thickness of 8 μm by spin coating and pre-dried (120 ° C., 3 minutes). Next, using a photomask having a dot pattern with an opening diameter of 30 μm, exposure was performed with an exposure gap of 500 μm. Thereafter, alkali development (using 0.02 KOH aqueous solution) was performed to form a pattern, followed by baking (230 ° C., 60 minutes). Thus, a dome-shaped convex lens element having a height of 8 μm and a diameter of 40 μm was formed in a close-packed hexagonal lattice array as shown in FIG. The refractive index of this convex lens element was 1.59. The refractive index was measured using a spectroscopic ellipsometer (manufactured by Horiba, Ltd.).
Next, a flattening layer coating solution (manufactured by Tokyo Ohka Kogyo Co., Ltd.) was applied by a bar coating method so as to cover the convex lens element, and cured by irradiation with ultraviolet rays. Thereby, a planarizing layer having a refractive index of 1.42 was formed, and a microlens layer having a thickness of 13 μm was formed.
(Formation of organic EL elements and production of organic EL displays)
First, a gas barrier layer (thickness 150 nm) made of silicon oxide was formed on the microlens layer formed as described above by a sputtering method.
Next, an indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode film having a thickness of 200 nm is formed on the gas barrier layer by an ion plating method, a photosensitive resist is applied on the ITO electrode film, mask exposure, development, The ITO electrode film was etched to form a stripe-shaped transparent electrode layer having a width of 85 μm at a portion corresponding to the color conversion phosphor layer of each color.
Next, a mask provided with strip-shaped openings having a width of 80 μm at a pitch of 100 μm is prepared, and the mask is arranged so that the strip-shaped openings are positioned on the respective transparent electrode layers. A hole injection layer, a blue light emitting layer, and an electron injection layer were formed by vacuum deposition. That is, first, 4,4 ′, 4 ″ -tris [N- (3-methylphenyl) -N-phenylamino] triphenylamine was deposited to a thickness of 200 nm, and then formed into 4,4′-bis. A hole injection layer was formed on the transparent electrode layer by depositing [N- (1-naphthyl) -N-phenylamino] biphenyl to a thickness of 20 nm to form a hole injection layer. Bis (2,2-diphenylvinyl) biphenyl was evaporated to a thickness of 50 nm to form a light emitting layer, and then tris (8-quinolinol) aluminum was evaporated to a thickness of 20 nm to form an electron injection layer. The blue light-emitting organic EL light-emitting layer formed in this manner was positioned on each transparent electrode layer as a band-shaped pattern having a width of 80 μm.
Next, a mask provided with strip-shaped openings having a width of 280 μm at a pitch of 300 μm was prepared, and the above-described mask was arranged on the 280 μm opening sides of the black matrix so that the strip-shaped openings were orthogonal to the sides. Next, a film was formed by vapor-depositing aluminum through this mask by a vacuum vapor deposition method. Thereby, a stripe-shaped electrode layer (thickness 300 nm) made of aluminum and having a width of 280 μm was formed so as to be orthogonal to the electron injection layer.
Finally, a sealing plate was bonded to the surface side on which the electrode layer was formed via an ultraviolet curable adhesive. Thereby, the organic EL display of the present invention having a structure as shown in FIG. 6 was obtained.
By applying a voltage of DC 8.5V to the transparent electrode layer and the electrode layer of this organic EL display at a constant current density of 10 mA / cm 2 and continuously driving, a desired portion where the transparent electrode layer and the electrode layer cross each other. The blue organic EL element layer was made to emit light. The CIE chromaticity coordinates (JIS Z) are used for light emission of each color observed on the opposite side of the transparent substrate after color conversion by the color conversion phosphor layer or transmission as it is and color correction by the color filter layer. 8701). As a result, blue light emission of x = 0.158, y = 0.316, high luminance 950 cd / m 2 was confirmed in CIE chromaticity coordinates, and a high luminance display device could be manufactured.
[Comparative example]
Instead of forming the microlens layer, the same flattening layer coating solution as in the example was used, applied by a spin coat method so as to cover the color conversion phosphor layer, and cured by ultraviolet irradiation. Thus, an organic EL display was obtained in the same manner as in Example except that a transparent flattening layer having a thickness of 13 μm was formed.
The voltage was applied to the organic EL display in the same manner as in the examples to observe the image display quality, and the CIE chromaticity coordinates (JIS Z 8701) were measured for the emission of each color. As a result, low luminance (860 cd / m 2 ) blue light emission was confirmed, and no image display with high luminance was obtained.
