Abstract
【解決手段】カラー表示を行う液晶表示装置において、青色LED20からなるバックライトと、青色LED20からの光を透過する透明層、および青色LED20からの光を色変換する蛍光体層10を有する色変換部とを備える。バックライトに青色LED20を採用し、カラーフィルタの代わりに色変換を行う蛍光体層10を採用することにより、消費電力を削減してカラー表示を実現する液晶表示装置を得ることができる。

Description
図1は、本発明の実施の形態1における青色LEDと蛍光体層を備えた液晶表示装置であり、対向基板上に透明層および蛍光体層を有する色変換部を備えている。また、図2は、本発明の実施の形態1における青色LEDと蛍光体層を備えた別の液晶表示装置であり、TFTアレイ基板上に透明層および蛍光体層を有する色変換部を備えている。
Claims (6)
- カラー表示を行う液晶表示装置において、
青色LEDからなるバックライトと、
前記青色LEDからの光を透過する透明層、および前記青色LEDからの光を色変換する蛍光体層を有する色変換部と
を備えたことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置において、
前記色変換部は、TFTアレイ基板上に設けられたことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置において、
前記TFTアレイ基板は、前記色変換部の前記蛍光体層で色変換された後の光を偏光する偏光層をさらに備えたことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項2または3に記載の液晶表示装置において、
前記色変換部の前記蛍光体層は、前記蛍光体層で色変換された光の色に応じた染料を表面に塗布したことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置において、
前記色変換部は、対向基板上に設けられたことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項5に記載の液晶表示装置において、
前記対向基板は、前記色変換部に入力する前の光を偏光する偏光層をさらに備えたことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。
