Abstract
【解決手段】液晶表示パネルの有効表示領域(106)にデータ線(D1〜Dm)及び走査線(S1〜Sn)の交差部ごとに形成されるOCBモードの液晶セル(110)と、データ線(D1〜Dm)及び走査線(S1〜Sn)を駆動するためのパネル駆動部と、液晶セル(110)を取り囲むように液晶表示パネル(100)の非表示領域に形成されるOCBモードのダミー液晶セル(112)と、を備え、ダミー液晶セル(112)に含まれる液晶は、液晶セル(110)がデータ線(D1〜Dm)から供給されるデータ信号に対応して駆動される時、ベンド状態を維持する。

Claims (11)
- 液晶表示パネルの有効表示領域にデータ線及び走査線の交差部ごとに形成されるOCBモードの液晶セルと、
前記データ線及び走査線を駆動するためのパネル駆動部と、
前記液晶セルを取り囲むように前記液晶表示パネルの非表示領域に形成されるOCBモードのダミー液晶セルと、を備え、
前記ダミー液晶セルに含まれる液晶は、前記液晶セルが前記データ線から供給されるデータ信号に対応して駆動される時、ベンド状態を維持することを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記パネル駆動部は、
前記ダミー液晶セル及び前記液晶セルに接続される走査線に走査信号を順次供給するための走査駆動部と、
前記ダミー液晶セル及び前記液晶セルに接続されるデータ線にデータ信号を供給するためのデータ駆動部と、
を備えることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記データ駆動部は、
前記ダミー液晶セルに含まれる液晶に転移電圧以上の電圧が供給されるように、前記ダミー液晶セルに供給されるデータ信号の電圧値を制御することを特徴とする請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記ダミー液晶セルは、
前記走査信号が供給される時、ターンオンされる薄膜トランジスタと、
前記薄膜トランジスタがターンオンされる時、前記データ信号に対応して前記液晶に所定の電圧を供給するための画素電極と、
を備えることを特徴とする請求項3に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記パネル駆動部は、
前記液晶セルと接続される走査線に走査信号を順次供給するための走査駆動部と、
前記液晶セルと接続されるデータ線にデータ信号を供給するためのデータ駆動部と、
を備えすることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - ダミー電圧源と、
前記ダミー電圧源と前記ダミー液晶セルそれぞれに含まれた画素電極とを電気的に接続させるためのダミーラインと、
をさらに備えすることを特徴とする請求項5に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記ダミー電圧源の電圧値は、
前記ダミー液晶セルに含まれた液晶に転移電圧以上の電圧が供給されるように設定されることを特徴とする請求項6に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 有効表示領域に形成されるOCBモードの液晶セルで所定の画像を表示する段階と、
前記液晶セルで所定の画像が表示される時、非表示領域に形成されるダミー液晶セルに含まれる液晶に転移電圧以上の電圧を供給する段階と、
を含むことを特徴とする液晶表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記転移電圧は、
前記ダミー液晶セルに含まれる液晶がスプレイ状態からベンド状態に転換される電圧であることを特徴とする請求項8に記載の液晶表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記転移電圧以上の電圧を印加する段階は、
前記ダミー液晶セルに含まれた薄膜トランジスタをターンオンさせる段階と、
前記薄膜トランジスタがターンオンされる時、前記ダミー液晶セルそれぞれに含まれる画素電極にデータ信号を供給する段階と、
を含むことを特徴とする請求項8に記載の液晶表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記ダミー液晶セルそれぞれに含まれる画素電極はダミー電圧源と接続され、
前記ダミー電圧源の電圧値は、
前記ダミー液晶セルに含まれる液晶に転移電圧以上の電圧が供給されるように設定されることを特徴とする請求項8に記載の液晶表示装置の駆動方法。
