様々な粒径中央値の含水ケイ酸マグネシウム(タルク):
次の実施例及び続く実施例では、標準的な従来の被覆研磨品を使用する。基材材料はA重量紙であり、メイクコート及びサイズコートはユリア−ホルムアルデヒド結合剤を含む。各ケースにおいて研磨材粒子は、P320酸化アルミニウムである。この基準被覆研磨品に、目詰まり防止剤を含む外側コートを塗付する。1つのケースでは、比較の目的で添加物を加えなかった。第二のケースでは、ステアリン酸亜鉛を含有する外側コーティングを塗付し、その他の3つのケースでは、塗付されたコーティングは異なる粒径を有する含水ケイ酸マグネシウム(タルク)であった。これらの添加物は、その添加物を示されている体積%で含有するラテックス及び水に中の分散物として塗付した。

Wollastonite 325は、NYCO Minerals, Inc. から入手できるケイ酸カルシウムである。

硫酸カルシウム(無水及び含水):
標準的なP320粒子、A重量紙、酸化アルミニウムの通常の被覆研磨品を用いた。この基準被覆研磨品に、硫酸カルシウム(無水及び含水)の目詰まり防止剤を含む上部サイズコートを適用した。次の表6に示す研削結果は、基準対照と比べて本発明の目詰まり防止剤を取り入れた場合は切削量が大きかったことを示す。
TERRA ALBAは、United States Gypsum Companyから入手できる含水硫酸カルシウムである。
研磨後の磨いた塗装パネルの水接触角:
実施例1〜4で述べた上部サイズ被膜を有するP320粒子の被覆研磨品で、プライマーパネルを磨いた。同一の研磨手順を、各被覆研磨品で用いた。次いで、新たに研磨したそれぞれのパネル、及び研削を何も受けなかったパネル上に、1滴の水を置き、図1に記載したように接触角θを記録した。接触角は、接触線における液体の表面と固体平面の表面との間の角度である。接触角が大きいほど濡れが少ないことを示す。これらの結果を表7に示す。この表は、本発明による被覆研磨品で研磨したパネルの接触角が、目詰まり防止層のない被覆研磨品を用いて研磨したパネルと本質的に同一又はそれよりも小さいことを明白に示している。通常のステアリン酸亜鉛の目詰まり防止層を有する被覆研磨品は、低表面エネルギー残渣を明らかに堆積させ、その存在はきわめて大きい水接触角によって示されている。この結論は、このような表面に塗装した塗料が表面を容易に濡らさず、それが表面の欠陥を招くということである。
Claims (32)
- 金属ケイ酸塩、シリカ、金属炭酸塩、及び金属硫酸塩からなる群から選択される少なくとも2g/m2の量の無機目詰まり防止剤から本質的になる外側層を備えている被覆研磨品。
- 前記金属ケイ酸塩が、ケイ酸マグネシウム、ケイ酸カリウムアルミニウム、ケイ酸アルミニウム、ケイ酸カリウム、ケイ酸ナトリウム、及びケイ酸カルシウムからなる群から選択される、請求項1に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記ケイ酸マグネシウムがタルクを含む、請求項2に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記ケイ酸カリウムアルミニウムが雲母を含む、請求項2に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記ケイ酸アルミニウムがクレーを含む、請求項2に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記ケイ酸カルシウムが珪灰石を含む、請求項2に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記シリカが、溶融シリカ、フュームドシリカ、及び沈降アモルファスシリカからなる群から選択される、請求項1に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記金属炭酸塩が炭酸カルシウムを含む、請求項1に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記金属硫酸塩が含水硫酸カルシウム又は無水硫酸カルシウムを含む、請求項1に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記目詰まり防止剤のモース硬さの値が約7未満である、請求項1に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記目詰まり防止剤の平均粒径が約30μm未満である、請求項1に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記目詰まり防止剤の平均粒径が1μm〜20μmである、請求項11に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記目詰まり防止剤が、適用されて前記外側層を形成する配合物の少なくとも60体積%を提供する、請求項1に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記目詰まり防止剤が、適用されて前記外側層を形成する組成物の少なくとも80体積%を提供する、請求項13に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記目詰まり防止剤粒子が、前記被覆研磨品で塗装面を磨いて研磨削りくずを生成する際に、前記目詰まり防止剤粒子を放出し、削りくずの粒子と結合してその集塊形成を阻止するような粒径を有する、請求項1に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記目詰まり防止剤が結合剤中に分散している、請求項1に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記目詰まり防止剤が金属ケイ酸塩の結合剤溶液中に分散する、請求項16に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記結合剤が熱可塑性又は熱硬化性樹脂を含む、請求項16に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記熱可塑性樹脂がラテックスの形態である、請求項18に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記熱硬化性樹脂が、ユリアホルムアルデヒド、フェノール、エポキシ、ウレタン、及び放射線硬化性樹脂系からなる群から選択される、請求項18に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 第一の面を有する基材層、
前記基材層の前記第一の面に配置されている複数の研磨粒子を有する研磨層、及び
前記研磨層を覆って配置されている本質的に少なくとも2g/m2の無機目詰まり防止剤からなる層、
を含む、被覆研磨品。 - 前記目詰まり防止剤が、金属ケイ酸塩、シリカ、金属炭酸塩、及び金属硫酸塩からなる群から選択される、請求項21に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記金属ケイ酸塩が、ケイ酸マグネシウム、ケイ酸カリウムアルミニウム、ケイ酸アルミニウム、及びケイ酸カルシウムからなる群から選択される、請求項22に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 前記目詰まり防止剤粒子が、前記被覆研磨品で塗装面を磨いて研磨削りくずを生成する際に、前記目詰まり防止剤粒子を放出し、削りくずの粒子と結合してその集塊形成を阻止するような粒径を有する、請求項21に記載の被覆研磨品。
- 複数の研磨粒子を基材層の第一の面に付着させること、及び本質的に目詰まり防止剤からなる層を前記研磨粒子を覆って堆積させることを含み、前記目詰まり防止剤が金属ケイ酸塩、シリカ、金属炭酸塩、及び金属硫酸塩からなる群から選択され、少なくとも60体積%の前記目詰まり防止剤を含む配合物の状態で前記目詰まり防止剤を適用して、少なくとも2g/m2の目詰まり防止剤の表面被膜を形成するようにする、被覆研磨品の形成方法。
- 前記金属ケイ酸塩が、ケイ酸マグネシウム、ケイ酸カリウムアルミニウム、ケイ酸アルミニウム、及びケイ酸カルシウムからなる群から選択される、請求項25に記載の方法。
- 前記ケイ酸マグネシウムがタルクを含む、請求項26に記載の方法。
- 前記目詰まり防止剤のモース硬さの値が約7未満である、請求項25に記載の方法。
- 前記目詰まり防止剤の平均粒径が約30μm未満である、請求項25に記載の方法。
- 前記目詰まり防止剤を結合剤中に分散させる工程を更に含む、請求項25に記載の方法。
- 前記結合剤が、熱可塑性樹脂、熱硬化性樹脂、及びそれらの混合物からなる群から選択されるポリマー成分を含む、請求項30に記載の方法。
