Abstract
【解決手段】アスペクト比1.5以上のコーディエライト化原料を含有する坏土を作製する工程と、前記坏土を成形してハニカム形状の成形体を作製する工程と、前記成形体を乾燥させてハニカム乾燥体を作製する工程と、前記ハニカム乾燥体を焼成してコーディエライト質ハニカム構造体を作製する工程とを有するコーディエライト質ハニカム構造体の製造方法。

Description
アスペクト比=(原料粒子の長径)/(原料粒子の短径)
そして、アスペクト比の測定は、コーディエライト化原料をSEM写真にとり、得られた画像を画像解析することにより行う。ここで、原料粒子の短径とは、SEM写真から判別できる原料粒子の重心を通る最短の長さ(径)をいい、原料粒子の長径とは、SEM写真から判別できる原料粒子の重心を通る最長の長さ(径)をいう。
コーディエライト化原料として、平均粒径10μmのカオリン19質量%、平均粒径30μmのタルク40質量%、平均粒径30μmの溶融シリカ13質量%、平均粒径3μmの水酸化アルミニウム8質量%、表1に記載のそれぞれの酸化アルミニウム(実施例1〜4、比較例1〜3)20質量%の組成物を使用した。上記組成物にバインダーを6質量%(得られる坏土全体を100質量%としたときの比率)加え、プロ−シェアーミキサーで3分間混合し、造孔材として平均粒径40μmのカーボンを20質量%(得られる坏土全体を100質量%としたときの比率)添加し、更にプロ−シェアーミキサーで3分間混合した。そして、得られた混合物に水24質量%(得られる坏土全体を100質量%としたときの比率)を噴霧添加して、プロ−シェアーミキサーで更に3分間混合した後、シグマ型ニーダーで30分間混練して坏土を得た。
コーディエライト化原料の一つである酸化アルミニウムとして、実施例1で使用したファイバーアルミナと比較例2で使用した粒状アルミナとの両方を合わせて使用した以外は、実施例1と同様にしてコーディエライト質ハニカム構造体を作製した。酸化アルミニウムの組成は表1に記載の通りである。
気孔率=全細孔容積/(全細孔容積+1/2.52)×100
コーディエライトの真比重を2.52g/cm3とした。また、平均細孔径を、マイクロメリティックス社製の水銀圧入式ポロシメーターAutoPoreIIIにより測定した。測定結果を表1に示す。
Claims (8)
- アスペクト比1.5以上のコーディエライト化原料を含有する坏土を作製する工程と、前記坏土を成形してハニカム形状の成形体を作製する工程と、前記成形体を乾燥させてハニカム乾燥体を作製する工程と、前記ハニカム乾燥体を焼成してコーディエライト質ハニカム構造体を作製する工程とを有するコーディエライト質ハニカム構造体の製造方法。
- 前記アスペクト比1.5以上のコーディエライト化原料が、ファイバーである請求項1に記載のコーディエライト質ハニカム構造体の製造方法。
- 前記アスペクト比1.5以上のコーディエライト化原料が、アルミナ、アルミノシリケート又はシリカである請求項1又は2に記載のコーディエライト質ハニカム構造体の製造方法。
- 前記アスペクト比1.5以上のコーディエライト化原料が、短径の平均が0.5〜5μmのファイバーアルミナ、短径の平均が1〜20μmのファイバーアルミノシリケート又は短径の平均が1〜20μmのファイバーシリカである請求項3に記載のコーディエライト質ハニカム構造体の製造方法。
- 前記アスペクト比1.5以上のコーディエライト化原料が、前記坏土に含有されるコーディエライト化原料全体に対して5質量%以上含有されている請求項1〜4のいずれかに記載のコーディエライト質ハニカム構造体の製造方法。
- 前記坏土が、アスペクト比2以上のコーディエライト化原料を含有する請求項1〜5のいずれかに記載のコーディエライト質ハニカム構造体の製造方法。
- 前記坏土が、アスペクト比3以上のコーディエライト化原料を含有する請求項1〜5のいずれかに記載のコーディエライト質ハニカム構造体の製造方法。
- 請求項1〜7のいずれかに記載のコーディエライト質ハニカム構造体の製造方法により得られるコーディエライト質ハニカム構造体。
