現在、ベッドは、多機能化かつ複雑化の傾向にある。したがって、それらのベッドに付随させる備品類もその機能性を損なわないようにさまざまな工夫が凝らされている。例えば、ベッドのサイドフレームに取り付けられる備品類として、サイドレールや介助手段等を挙げることができる。サイドレールは、周知のように高齢者あるいは療養者の落下防止となり、介助手段は、患者がベッドからの離床の際に手がかりとなる機能を有するものであり、また、このようなサイドレールと介助手段とを兼ね備えた機能を有するものも製品化されている。
このようなサイドレールの機能も備えた介助手段としては、ベッド側面のサイドフレームに、ベッド用側柵を固定し、このベッド用側柵の一側部に把持体を回動自在に連結してなるものがある(例えば、特許文献1参照。)。

上記のように構成された把持部材5の下部前方寄りには前記支柱3に入れ子状に外嵌される支持部材4が固着されている。この支持部材4は中空であり、下端部近傍には高さ調節機構6を構成する空孔部(図示省略)が穿設され、該空孔部上にナット部材17が固着されている。そして、このナット部材17にボルト部材18が螺着されている。
