しかし、この芋も最近では畑で人手によって栽培し生産されるようになり、一般にその形状からして長芋と呼ばれるようになっていて、大きさについては様々見られるが、大体は長さが80cm、太さが6〜8cm前後である。

したがって収穫に際しては土中に深く埋まっているため掘出すときは途中で折れて売り物にならなくなることや、畑の中に石などの障害物がある場合には真直ぐに伸びる性質のある芋は曲ってしまい商品価値が下がる嫌いがあった。

発明者はこの点に鑑み鋭意研究を重ねた結果、長芋が真直ぐに生長する性質を利用して円筒型の長筒を使用して、この長筒の中で長芋を栽培することによって、芋は長筒内で真直ぐに生長して立派な商品価値のある長芋を得ることができた。

添付図面により本発明の実施の形態を説明すると、図1は畑土の中に埋設する長筒(1)の説明図であって、長さは約90cm、径は6〜8cm程度のものが適当であり、材質は土中で酸化され難いものとして塩化ビニール製のものが適しているが、この材質については特定しない。そしてこの長筒(1)の側面には多数の透水用の小孔(2)を設ける。

図2は長筒(1)を畑土の中に埋入して種芋(3)を長筒の上面に植付けた実施例図を示している。図3は長芋Aが長筒(1)内で生長した収穫期の状態図であって、このようになって長筒ごと畑土G中から掘り出し芋Aを得る。

作られた畝山上にドリルで穴を明け、この穴の中に、図1に示される長さ90cm、直径7cmの長筒(1)を埋入する。長筒(1)は塩ビ製であって、筒の全長に亘って側面に透水孔(2)を設けてある。そしてこの長筒(1)内に畑土を充填して上面に種芋(3)を埋めて、図2に示すような植付けが完了する。長筒は図面においては作図上横形にしているが、当然縦で使用する。

途中何回かの施肥や除草を行うが約4ヶ月後作付けした芋は図3に示すように埋設した長筒(1)内で十分生長して立派な長芋Aとなっている。

収穫は特殊な掘出し機を使用する。この掘出し機によって長筒(1)ごと土中から掘出して長筒(1)内から長芋Aを引出す。この長芋Aは長筒(1)によって真直ぐに細長く生長していて商品価値の高いものとして市場に出される。

上述のように本発明の長芋の栽培方法は、長筒を使用して、この中で長芋を生長させ、しかも、収穫の際にも長筒のまま掘出して芋を取り出すため、本発明の栽培方法によって育成される長芋は真直ぐに伸びた型のよい芋であって商品価値が高く、しかも収穫に際しては長筒ごと掘出すため芋を傷つけることがないという画期的な作用効果を奏する。
