力をかけられている。国内や地球規模の競争が激化するにつれ、マーケットシェ
ア（市場占有率）を高めない企業は、高める企業にたちまち敗北する。この結果
、多くの製品の寿命（ライフサイクル）（製品投入から停止まで）が比較的短く
なり、多くの企業は、製品開発経費を僅か数年で回収しようと努める。
【０００２】 特に重要なことは、新製品のマーケットシェアを迅速に高めることである。さ
もなければ、その製品は、消費者に受け入れられない。残念ながら、消費者は、
新製品（特に、新技術を含む新製品）の購入には慎重である。特に難しいのは、
新しいコンピュータや電子式その他の「ハイテク」製品の販売である。このよう

入れられていることが重要である。したがって、多くの消費者は、かなりの数の
他の消費者が、その製品を購入したのを見届けるまでは購入を差し控える。例え

ックス機が少なかった。このため、その利便性が制限され、かなりの数の消費者

も「ピラミッド」の高い位置に就いて、複数販売員に対して販売する。通常、一
人の販売員は、自分の下の販売員を「募集」して獲得するか、そうでなければ製
品を販売するように他の販売員を説得して獲得する。この販売員には、下位の複
数販売員が行なった販売に対してコミッション（手数料または歩合）が支払われ
る。最高位の販売員には最高のコミッションが支払われる。彼らは、多くの下位
販売員の販売を発生させ、したがってコミッションを発生させるからである。最
下位の販売員には、コミッションが支払われるにしても、最低のコミッションが

ーモデル、ソフトウエア、雑誌の予約購読、航空路線、書籍、ビデオテープ、抽
選ゲーム器、電話設置計画、リースシステム、処方薬剤、新店舗または新会社の
販売製品等の販売に好適である。

ようと試みるかもしれない。幾つかの提出されたカードが同じユニット識別子を
有していれば、各ユニット識別子は固有のものだから、不正行為を容易に検出で
きる。しかし、各提出カードが異なる有効なユニット識別子を有している場合に
は、不正行為の検出はより難しくなる。したがって、有効なユニット識別子が他
のユニット識別子から容易に突き止められれば、無節操な者は、それらの有効な
識別子を含む登録情報を、該識別子に対応するユニットを購入せずに、提出しよ
うとするだろう。例えば、１０，０００〜１１，０００の範囲のすべての番号が
有効なユニット識別子の場合、購入したユニットが「１０，０００」というユニ
ット識別子を有していれば、「１０，００１」のユニット識別子も同じく有効と
推測される。その場合、無節操な者は、２ユニットの製品を購入せずとも、２枚
の登録カードを提出できるだろう。
【００１９】 したがって、有効ユニット識別子は、例えば続き番号でないことが望ましい。
つまり、ユニット識別子は、ランダムに発生する番号または文字数字にする。加
えて、ユニット識別子を２つ以上の識別子を組合わせたものにすることもできる
。例えば（ｉ）通し番号、（ii）クレジットカード番号、（iii）固有の取引コ ード、（iv）購入場所を特定する店舗識別子のいずれかの、またはすべての組合
わせにすることができる。この組合わせにより、不正行為で登録購入者となるこ
とが困難になる。更に、ユニット識別子を暗号化して、情報（例えば、通し番号
または店舗識別子）を暗号から検出できるようにし、また無効なユニット識別子
を生じることなしには、その情報を容易に変更できないようにする。この暗号化
によっても、有効なユニット識別子を他のユニット識別子から突き止める試みを
防止できる。多くの暗号技術が周知であり、例えばブルース・シュネアー著『応
用暗号法、プロトコル、アルゴリズム、Ｃソース・コード』（Bruce Schneier:"
Applied Cryptography, Protocols, Algorithms, Source Code in C"）に説明さ
れている。
【００２０】 無法者は、購入品を返品した後も、購入者登録したままにしようとするかもし
れない。しかし、各ユニットが、固有の識別子で識別され、対応する登録が返品
ユニットから確定できれば、中央制御装置１２（図１）は、該ユニットが返品さ
れた後、関連登録を削除できる。例えば、返品ユニットが通し番号を有していれ
ば、その通し番号の登録を確認し削除できる。あるいはまた、各ユニットに「剥
取り」被覆またはラベルを被着させ、それを剥がすと、ユニット識別子が現れる
ようにすることもできる。各ユニットは、その場合、ラベルのユニット識別子に
よってのみ識別される。ユニットが返品されると、ラベルを調べて、ユニット識
別子が現れたかどうかを確定する。ユニット識別子が現れていなければ、そのユ
ニットに対応する登録がなされていないことが判る。別の例では、固有の取引コ
ードが受領書に印刷される。各取引コードは、それによってユニット識別子とし
て役立ち、製品が受領書と共に返品されれば、登録と突き合わせることができる
。 製品登録の公知システムでは、購入者のすべてが対応登録情報を提出するわけ
ではない。しかし、本発明では、初期購入者が識別され、登録情報を提出した後
に初めて褒賞を受けるので、本発明の場合は、通常、登録情報を提出する購入者
の数が増やすことになるだろう。登録情報は、特に貴重であり、販売を追跡し、
販売促進やより効果的な宣伝を目標にすることができる。
【００２１】 (製品の販売成果測定値) 登録を記憶する中央制御装置１２（図１）は製品成功度を計算し、その成功度
が所定範囲内にあれば、各初期購入者には褒賞が与えられる。通常、製品成功度
は販売量であり、褒賞は、製品販売数が所定数を超えた場合に与えられる。しか
し、別の例では、製品成功度は、例えば製品のマーケットシェア、製品価格、製
品収入、製品収益のいずれかでよい。例えば、製品成功度を製品価格にした場合
、褒賞は、製品価格が所定価額未満になった場合に与えられる。更に、製品成功
度は、絶対額（例えば会計年度中の収益）または相対額（例えば競合製品よりも
１０，０００ユニット多く販売された）で計算することができる。
【００２２】 図４を見ると、製品成功度データベース２７（図２）の記録６０には、製品識
別子６２によって識別される製品に対する製品成功パラメータを規定する。製品
成功データベース２７（図２）は、通常、記録６０等の複数の記録を含んでおり
、各記録が、異なる製品の製品成功パラメータを規定する。記録６０は、項目６
４，６６，６８を含み、各項目が、（ｉ）販売量７０と、（ii）褒賞項目を示す
識別子７２とを特定するが、これについては後で述べる。各項目６４，６６，６
８により、対応販売量の達成時に与えられる褒賞が特定される。当業者には、項
目数はいくつでも使用可能であることが理解されるだろう。 製品成功を複数の「段階」に分けるのは望ましいだろう。その各段階は、製品
成功度の異なる範囲に対応する。例えば販売量１００，０００は、第１段階の製
品成功の下閾値を示し、販売量１，０００，０００は、第２段階の製品成功の下
閾値を示し、販売量２，０００，０００以上は、第３段階の製品成功を示す。し
たがって、各所定範囲は１段階に対応し、各段階は、記録６０の１項目に対応す
る。製品成功度が所定範囲（販売量７０）の１つに属する場合、褒賞（褒賞識別
子７２により特定される）が、各初期購入者に与えられる。後述するように、各
段階に与えられる褒賞は、同じでも（例えば各１００，０００販売量毎に１０ド
ル）、異なっていても（例えば、販売量１００，０００に到達時には１０ドル、
販売量１，０００，０００に到達時には５０ドル）よい。
【００２３】 (初期購入者の褒賞) 通常、初期購入者とは、製品寿命（ライフサイクル）の初期に製品を購入する
者である。購入者が初期購入者かどうかは、その購入者対応の登録から検証でき
る。初期購入者の登録である一組の登録を選択することで、一組の初期購入者を
規定できる。 一例では、登録が一連の登録として配列され、一連の登録のそれぞれが順位を
有する。したがって、各登録が、該登録より前の登録の数と後の登録の数を規定
する。各登録の順位は、対応登録情報が受理された順序、または対応製品が購入
された順序を指示する。例えば、受理された第１の登録カードの登録情報は、一
連の登録の第１登録を作るために使用される。初期購入者の記録は、複数位置の
所定範囲内の順位を有する一組の登録として規定できる。例えば、１番目の登録
から１，０００番目の登録までのすべての登録は、初期購入者登録と見なしてよ
い。
【００２４】 別の例では、各登録が、対応登録情報を受理した日付、または製品購入日に対
応する日付を有する。初期購入者登録は、所定日付以前の日付を有する一組の登
録として規定できる。例えば１９９９年１月４日以前の日付を有するすべての登
録は初期購入者登録と見なされる。あるいはまた、初期購入者登録は、所定範囲
内日付を有する一組の登録、例えば１９９９年１月１日から１９９９年１月３１
日までの日付を有するすべての登録として規定される。製品の導入時にではなく
、製品の導入後に開始される日付範囲を有するようにするのが有利である。例え
ば、製造業者は、製品の生産が一定レベルに達するまで待つのが望ましいだろう
。 更に別の例の場合、一組の初期購入者登録は、登録のランダムな選択、または
一定基準に合致する登録のランダムな選択として規定できるだろう。例えば、１
９９９年１月４日以前の日付を有するすべての登録から、半分をランダムに選択
して初期購入者登録と見なすのである。別の例では、最初の登録から１，０００
番目までの登録のなかから、１００登録がランダムに選択され、初期購入者登録
と見なされる。
【００２５】 図５の場合、初期購入者データベース３０（図２）の記録８０は、ある登録が
初期購入者登録かどうか、したがってまた購入者が初期購入者かどうかを規定す
るための基準を示したものである。記録８０は、製品識別子８２によって識別さ
れる製品用である。初期購入者データベース３０（図２）は、通常、記録８０の
ような複数記録を含んでおり、各記録は、製品の登録が初期購入者登録かどうか
を確定する基準を規定する。記録８０は、項目８４，８６，８８を含み、各項目
が、（ｉ）登録順位９０と、（ii）初期購入者識別子９２とを示している。各項
目８４，８６，８８は、登録の順位に基づき、登録が初期購入者登録かどうかを
確定する基準を含む。当業者には、登録順位ではなく各種の別の基準を使用でき
ることが理解されるだろう。例えば、既述のように、登録が初期購入者登録か否
かを確定するために、購入日付を利用することができる。
【００２６】 更に、初期購入者登録は群分け（グループ化）することができる。例えば、最
初の１，０００の登録を初期購入者登録とした場合、第１群を最初の１００登録
とし、第２群を、続く９００登録とすることができる。項目８４は、初期購入者
識別子「Ａ」を有する第１群（最初の１００登録）を示しており、項目８６は、
初期購入者識別子「Ｂ」を有する第２群（続く９００登録）を示している。また
項目８８は、初期購入者識別子を特定せず、したがって、１，０００以上の順位
を有する登録は、初期購入者登録とは見なされないことを示している。当業者に
は、項目数は幾つでもよく、したがって初期購入者登録群の数もいくつでもよい
ことが理解されるだろう。更に、記録は１つ以上でもよく、したがって製品も１
以上でよく、製品に対する各登録が初期購入者登録となるように定められる。し
たがって、各購入者が褒賞を受けられる製品が１以上あることになる。 初期購入者登録は、また別の基準、例えば対応購入者の地理的な地域に基づい
て群分けしてもよい。例えば、各群は州または大都市圏の初期購入者に対応させ
ることができる。
【００２７】 初期購入者登録の群分けは、特に初期購入者各群に対し異なる褒賞を与えるの
に好都合である。例えば、始めの１００名の製品購入者には、次の９００名の購
入者よりも高額の褒賞を提供できる。褒賞の決定と供与については詳しく後述す
る。 購入者に対して、かれらが初期購入者に該当するか否かを知らせることも望ま
しい。購入者は、自分に対応する登録がなされた後で、その旨を知らされる。例
えば、インターネットを通じてある製品を注文すると、「あなたの登録番号は９
６３です」および／または「あなたは初期購入者になりました。１，０００，０
００ユニット販売後に褒賞を受取れます」というメッセージを受信できるだろう
。また購入者に販売総数を知らせることも望ましい。例えば、定期的な間隔で、
登録購入者に対し電子メールで、例えば「本日の時点で販売数１２，０７３です
」等のメッセージが送られる。初期購入者登録が群分けされる場合には、購入者
は所属群を知らされる。例えば、「あなたは最初の１００名の１人です」という
メッセージを受取る。
【００２８】 図６の場合、褒賞データベース２８（図２）の記録１００は、製品成功に基づ
いて初期購入者に与えられる褒賞を規定したものである。記録１００は、製品識
別子１０２により識別される製品に対応している。褒賞データベース２８（図２
）は、例えば記録１００等の複数記録を含み、各記録が異なる製品の初期購入者
に与えられる褒賞を規定している。記録１００は、項目１０４，１０６，１０８
，１１０，１１２，１１４を含み、各項目には、（ｉ）製品成功データベース２
７（図２）の褒賞識別子７２（図４）に対応する褒賞識別子１１６と、（ii）初
期購入者データベース３０（図２）の初期購入者識別子９２（図５）に対応する
初期購入者識別子１１８と、（iii）褒賞１２０とが記載されている。各項目１ ０４，１０６，１０８，１１０，１１２，１１４には、褒賞識別子により示され
た特定褒賞スケジュールに合わせて特定群の初期購入者に与えられる褒賞が規定
されている。例えば項目１０４，１０６は、褒賞識別子「Ｒ１」の場合、「Ａ」
群の初期購入者には１０ドルが与えられ、「Ｂ」群の初期購入者には５ドルが与
えられることを示している。
【００２９】 図７の場合、製品識別子「１１１１」によって識別される製品の初期購入者に
対する褒賞は、例示の販売量１３０により決定される。図７に見られるように、
例示の販売量は１，５００，０００である。したがって、記録６０の項目６６に
従い、褒賞識別子「Ｒ２」により特定される褒賞スケジュールが有効となる。 当該の登録例（図示せず）の順位１３２は、「８８」として示してある。した
がって、記録８０の項目８４に従い、この登録例に対応する購入者は、初期購入
者であり、初期購入者の「Ａ」群に該当する。記録１００の項目１０８に目を転
じると、褒賞識別子「Ｒ２」と初期購入者「Ａ」群とは共に、登録例に該当する
購入者が無料入場券、例えばスポーツイベントの入場券を与えられることを示し
ている。
【００３０】 多数の各種褒賞が本発明範囲および本発明精神の範囲内にある。例えば、褒賞
は、例えば固定額の賞金または他の製品に対する割引でもよいし、更には購入価
格に基づく金額でもよい。例えば、購入価格または購入価格の一部を払戻すか、
または当該購入価格と現行製品価格との差額に基づく金額を払戻してもよい。褒
賞は、また当該製品または他の製品を付加してもよく、また何らかの製品のギフ
ト券を供与してもよい。褒賞は、またネットワークへのアクセスを可能にするア
クセスコードでもよい。例えば、初期購入者に与えられるコードは、無料ソフト
ウエアが得られるワールド・ワイド・ウエブ（World Wide Web）のサイトにアク
セスできるものにすることができる。加えて、褒賞は、当たりくじの賞金を増額
するか、またはくじの当たる機会を増すようにしてもよい。また褒賞を、製品に
保証期間を付けるか、または保証期間の延長にしてもよい。 加えて、購入者への褒賞は、勘定残高の確定および／または清算を含むことが
できる。購入者に与えられる各褒賞によって、勘定残高は増加する。勘定残高は
、積立金（現金払い）または相応の価値を有する製品で償還される。
【００３１】 図８の場合、勘定データベース１４０には、項目１４２，１４４，１４６，１
４８が記憶され、各項目が登録購入者の勘定を示している。勘定データベース１
４０は、通常、中央制御装置（図２）の記憶装置２２（図２）に記憶されている
。各項目１４２，１４４，１４６，１４８によって、（ｉ）各勘定を特定する勘
定識別子１５０と、（ii）勘定残高１５２と、（iii）購入者氏名１５４と、（i
v）購入者住所１５６とが特定される。 勘定残高を増大させるには多くの方法を使用できる。一例として、残高に相次
いで加わる各額は、相次ぐ各製品成功段階への到達時に増大する。したがって、
相次ぐ褒賞により相次いで増加する額によって残高が増加する。例えば、最初の
勘定残高は、製品成功の３つの段階ごとに、０ドルから１０ドルへ、次いで２５
ドルへ、更に５０ドルへ増加する。したがって、購入者にとっては、残高の増加
を待って、償還を受けた方が価値が高くなる。したがって、勘定の償還時に、購
入者に支払う側の製造業者、クレジットカード業者、その他の業者は、十分な製
品成功が達せられるまで、支払いをしないことで利益が得られる。
【００３２】 購入者は、自分の勘定残高の償還を受ける時点を決定でき、例えばインターネ
ット・サイトによるか、または電話によりボイス・レスポンスユニット（VRU） を通じて、償還を実行できる。また、中央制御装置は、購入者への償還時点を確
定でき、通常、その確定を所定基準に基づいて行う。例えば、製品成功の各段階
で各初期購入者の勘定残高が２倍になる場合、中央制御装置は、勘定が過大にな
らないうちに残高が償還されるようにする。 勘定残高が償還される際、購入者は、褒賞供与の１以上の方法を用いて相応の
支払いを受けることができる。例えば、褒賞は、（ｉ）クレジットカードの勘定
または他の勘定の貸方に記入されるか、（ii）通常、小切手または製品の形式で
初期購入者に郵送されるか、（iii）店舗または他の場所へ送付し、通知を受け た初期購入者が取りに行くかである。
【００３３】 図９には、褒賞プログラムを管理する方法２００が、中央制御装置１２（図１
）によって実施される順序が示されている。中央制御装置１２は、登録情報を受
信し（段階２０２）、それに応じて対応登録を生成する（段階２０４）。各登録
は記憶される（段階２０６）。中央制御装置は、製品成功度を、通常は周期的に
間隔をおいて計算する（段階２０８）。製品成功度が所定範囲内であれば（段階
２１０）、初期購入者が選択され（段階２１２）、褒賞が与えられる（段階２１
４）。前記の方法を一連の段階形式で説明したが、これが唯一の形式ではないこ
とは、当業者には理解されるだろう。例えば、幾つかの例では、初期購入者選択
の段階２１２を登録発生時に行うことができる。 図１０Ａおよび図１０Ｂに示した方法２５０は、図９の方法２００の変形例で
あり、同じ段階は同じ数字で示してある。方法２５０は、更に製品成功の若干の
段階の達成時に複数群の初期購入者に褒賞を与える段階を含む。中央制御装置１
２（図１）は、製品成功度が第１範囲（段階２２０）、第２範囲（段階２２２）
のいずれにあるかを確定する。成功度が第１範囲にあれば、第１褒賞スケジュー
ルがセットされる（段階２２４）。成功度が第２範囲にある場合は、第２褒賞ス
ケジュールがセットされる（段階２２６）。これらの範囲と対応褒賞スケジュー
ルとは、製品成功データベース２７（図２）の項目により決定される。中央制御
装置１２（図１）は初期購入者の第１群と第２群とを選択する（それぞれ段階２
２８、段階２３０）。初期購入者の第１群と第２群それぞれは、またセットされ
た褒賞スケジュールにしたがって褒賞を与えられる（それぞれ段階２３２、段階
２３４）。
【００３４】 本発明の前記例では、褒賞が、選択された製品購入者に与えられる。別の例で
は、褒賞を出す場合、購入者が２つ以上の製品（製品パッケージ）の登録購入者
となったかどうかに応じて褒賞が決められる。例えば、テレビとビデオカセット
レコーダ（ＶＣＲ）等の「関連する」と見なされる２つの製品がある。両方の製
品の登録購入者となった顧客は、一方または両方の製品が製品成功の所定レベル
に達すると、割増褒賞を与えられる。例えば、テレビの登録購入者には１０ドル
の褒賞金が、ＶＣＲの登録購入者にも１０ドルの褒賞金が、各製品成功時に、そ
れぞれ与えられるが、テレビとＶＣＲ両方を購入した登録購入者には、３０ドル
の褒賞金が与えられる。したがって、顧客には、一方の製品だけではなく、関連
する両方の製品の登録購入者となる付加的なインセンティブ（個別の２つの製品
に対する褒賞金額より１０ドル多い褒賞金）が与えられることになる。同じよう
に、顧客が、所定複数単位の製品を購入した場合に、それらの製品の初期購入者
となるようにすることもできる。例えば、複数単位のＶＣＲの登録購入者となれ
ば、ＶＣＲが製品成功の所定レベルに達した場合、割増褒賞を受ける資格を与え
られる。 この例は、類似性質の複数製品、例えば１セットの電子機器または１セットの
ソフトウェア製品の販売促進に特に適している。また、パッケージから多くの製
品を購入する顧客にとっても、極めて有利である。例えば、１パッケージが１０
個の異なるソフトウェア製品を含む場合、そのパッケージの３個以上の製品の登
録購入者となれば、割増褒賞が与えられる。この割増褒賞は、（ｉ）褒賞金の割
増か、（ii）各購入製品に関連して与えられる褒賞の倍増か、（iii）パッケー ジの他の製品の割引き価格での提供のいずれかにすることができる。
【００３５】 別の例では、購入者は、パッケージに含まれる２個以上の製品の登録購入者と
なった場合にのみ、初期購入者になれる。例えば、ある購入者が１台のテレビを
購入しても、かれが更にＶＣＲを購入して登録するまでは、初期購入者とは見な
されず、ＶＣＲ購入時点に、テレビおよびＶＣＲ両方の初期購入者となる。言い
換えると、この例では、いずれの登録についても初期購入者登録と見なされるに
は、パッケージ内の製品について２以上の登録が必要である。したがって、購入
者には、単一製品よりも多くの製品を購入して、初期購入者となる資格を得るイ
ンセンティブ（刺激）が与えられる。 図１１の場合、パッケージ・データベース３００には、項目３０２，３０４，
３０６が記憶されており、各項目が１パッケージの製品を示している。パッケー
ジ・データベース３００は、通常、中央制御装置（図２）の記憶装置２２（図２
）に貯蔵されている。項目３０２，３０４，３０６のそれぞれには、（ｉ）各パ
ッケージに固有のパッケージ識別子３０８と、（ii）パッケージに含まれる製品
を特定する製品識別子３１０と、（iii）１つ以上のパッケージ条件３１２、例 えば、割増褒賞を得る資格を得るために購入者が登録せねばならないパッケージ
製品数と、（iv）割増褒賞３１４とが明示されている。例えば、固有３０４には
、購入者が「２０００」，「１８０９」，「３２５４」，「１７４４」の識別子
で識別される製品のうちのいずれか３つに対する登録購入者になった場合、製品
成功達成時に受取る褒賞が２倍となる。
【００３６】 (好適例) 以下では、数例を挙げて、本発明の各種使用事例を説明する。これらの例は、
すべての可能な実施例を制限するものではなく、当業者には、本発明が、他の多
くの実施例に適用可能であることが理解されるだろう。更に、以下の例では、簡
明にするため説明は短くしたが、当業者には、必要とあれば、既述の装置および

チケット購入価格から割戻しを受ける。クレジットカード口座から支払った購入
者には、自動的にチケット購入価格の所定額分が割戻され、他の購入者には割戻
し小切手が郵送される。 電子機器の例： 新発売のデジタルレコーダを購入して登録カードを提出した最初の２０，００
０名の購入者を、初期購入者と見なす。１，０００，０００台のデジタルレコー
ダが販売されると、初期購入者には、デジタルレコーダの購入価格と現行価格と
の差額の小切手が郵送される。 コンピュータの例： 発売から１カ月以内に特定コンピュータを買った購入者に、該コンピュータが
１，０００箇所に設置された時点でアクセスコードが与えられる。このアクセス
コードにより、購入者は、ダウンロードワールド・ワイド・ウエブのサイトにア
クセスして、コンピュータのソフトウエアのアップグレードを無料でダウンロー
ドできる。 ソフトウエアの例： 新（「スタートアップ」）会社のグラフィックデザイン・プログラムの最初の
１００名の購入者に、登録コードと電話番号が与えられる。購入者がその電話番
号を呼び出すと、対応する登録コードを示すよう求められる。コードを示すこと
で、購入者は登録され、グラフィックデザイン・プログラムのコピーの販売数が
２５，０００加わるごとに、購入価格に対する割戻し小切手を受取る。 カメラの例： 特定デジタルカメラを一定種類のクレジットカード（例えばアメリカンエクス
プレス・クレジットカード）で支払う購入者が、初期購入者と見なされる。５０
０，０００台のデジタルカメラが販売されると、初期購入者のそれぞれにフィル
ム２０本が無料で与えられる。 インターネットの例： インターネットサイトを介して航空券を購入した最初の１０，０００名の購入
者が、初期購入者と見なされる。該インターネットサイトを介して１，０００，
０００を超える航空券が販売されると、各初期購入者には、該インターネットサ
イトを介して次回に購入する航空券が無料となる。 雑誌の例： 創刊雑誌の発行者が、最初の１カ月以内に定期購読を予約した各購読者に、雑
誌の予約購読者が６０，０００名に達した時点で、２年間無料で予約更新できる
ようにする。 宝くじの例： 最高賞金額（top jackpot）が１，０００，０００ドル未満の場合に、宝くじ を購入した者が初期購入者と見なされる。賞金額が１０，０００，０００ドルを
超え、宝くじ当選者が選ばれた場合、当たり籤を有する初期購入者は、通常、受
取る額（「賞金」）の２倍の額を受けられる。 競合製品の例： Ｘ社の第１ビデオゲームのすべての購入者には、Ｘ社の販売量がクリスマスシ
ーズン中にＹ社の販売量を超えた場合、無料で第２のビデオゲームを入手するこ
とができる。 新店舗の例： 新設の販売店で２００ドルを超える買い物をした最初の１，０００名の顧客に
は、該新店舗の販売高が１，０００，０００ドルに達した場合、１００ドルのギ
フト券が与えられる。 新クレジットカードの例： 新クレジットカードの保有を承認された最初の５００名の顧客には、該クレジ
ットカードの全保有者の月間総残高（balance）の一部が与えられる。 以上、本発明を好適実施例について説明したが当業者には、本発明の精神およ
び範囲を逸脱することなしに、前記の例に対して各種々の代替案が可能であるこ

  1. 【請求項１】 一連の登録に基づく褒賞プログラムを管理する方法であって
    、各登録が１購入者に対応する形式のものにおいて、 製品成功度を計算する段階と、 製品成功度が所定範囲内かどうかを確定する段階と、 前記一連の登録から、初期購入者登録である、１組の初期購入者を特定する１
    組の登録を選択する段階と、 製品成功度が所定範囲内であれば、各初期購入者に褒賞を与える段階とを含む
    褒賞プログラムの管理方法。
  2. 【請求項２】 製品成功度を計算する段階が、 製品販売量を計算する作業を含む請求項１に記載された褒賞プログラムの管理
    方法。
  3. 【請求項３】 製品成功の測定値が、製品のマーケットシェア、購入価格、
    製品収入、製品収益からなる測定値群から選択される請求項１に記載された褒賞
    プログラムの管理方法。
  4. 【請求項４】 前記一連の登録の各登録が、順位を有し、かつまた前記選択
    の段階が、前記一連の登録から、所定順位範囲内の順位を有する１組の登録を選
    択する作業を含む請求項１に記載された褒賞プログラムの管理方法。
  5. 【請求項５】 各登録の順位が、対応する登録情報が受取られた順序を示す
    請求項４に記載された褒賞プログラムの管理方法。
  6. 【請求項６】 前記選択段階が、前記一連の登録から、所定順位範囲内の順
    位を有するランダムに選択された１組の登録を選択する作業を含む請求項４に記
    載された褒賞プログラムの管理方法。
  7. 【請求項７】 更に、少なくとも１つの登録の順位を指示するメッセージを
    伝送する段階を含む請求項４に記載された褒賞プログラムの管理方法。

    日付を有する１組の登録を選択する作業を含む請求項８に記載された褒賞プログ

    日付を有するランダムに選択された１組の登録を選択する作業を含む請求項８に

    、 前記褒賞を与える段階が、前記製品成功度が所定範囲内にある場合、第１群の
    各初期購入者に対しては第１の褒賞を、また第２群の各初期購入者に対しては第
    ２褒賞を与える作業を含む請求項１に記載された褒賞プログラムの管理方法。
  13. 【請求項１３】 前記確定段階が、 製品成功度が第１所定範囲内にあるかどうかを確定する作業と、 製品成功度が第２所定範囲内にあるかどうかを確定する作業とを含み、 前記褒賞提供段階が、 製品成功度が第１所定範囲内にある場合に、各初期購入者に第１褒賞を与える
    作業と、 製品成功度が第２所定範囲内にある場合に、各初期購入者に第２褒賞を与える
    作業とを含む請求項１に記載された褒賞プログラムの管理方法。
  14. 【請求項１４】 前記褒賞提供段階が、製品成功度が所定範囲内にある場合
    に、初期購入者に賞金を与える作業を含む請求項１に記載された褒賞プログラム
    の管理方法。
  15. 【請求項１５】 各登録が対応する購入価格を含み、 前記褒賞提供段階が、 製品成功度が所定範囲内にある場合、各登録毎に、対応する購入価格に基づく
    賞金額を各対応初期購入者に対し与える作業を含む請求項１に記載された褒賞プ
    ログラムの管理方法。
  16. 【請求項１６】前記褒賞提供段階が、製品成功度が所定範囲内にある場合、
    各登録毎に、対応購入価格と現行購入価格との差額に基づく賞金額を与える作業
    を含む請求項１５に記載された褒賞プログラムの管理方法。
  17. 【請求項１７】 前記褒賞提供段階が、ネットワークへのアクセスを可能に
    するアクセスコードを与える作業を含む請求項１に記載された褒賞プログラムの
    管理方法。

    る作業を含む請求項１に記載された褒賞プログラムの管理方法。

    記憶させる段階と、 前記１組の初期購入者から、該組の一部のパッケージ購入者を選択する段階と
    を含み、各パッケージ購入者がパッケージ条件に合致しており、また 前記褒賞提供段階が、 製品成功度が所定範囲内にある場合に、各パッケージ購入者に割増褒賞を与え
    る作業を含む請求項１に記載された褒賞プログラムの管理方法。
