このような機能を有する燃料電池用電極としては、固体高分子電解質である陽イオン交換樹脂とカーボン粒子と触媒金属とを含む固体高分子電解質−触媒複合電極がある。例えば、固体高分子電解質であるである陽イオン交換樹脂とカーボン粒子と白金等の触媒金属を含む陽イオン交換樹脂−触媒複合電極の構造の例を図2に示す。図2において、6は触媒金属が高分散担持されたカーボン粒子、7は陽イオン交換樹脂、8はイオン交換膜、9は細孔である。
