Description
Claims (1)
- 【特許請求の範囲】 1.第1の偏光の方向を有する第1偏光子と第2の偏光の方向を有する第2偏光 子との間に、サンドイッチにされた液晶材料の層を具えている表示セルを設け られた液晶表示装置において、 前記の表示セルが、第2偏光子の側上の反射偏光子の偏光の方向が偏光の第 2の方向に対してある角をなし、且つ該反射偏光子への垂線に対してある角で 入射する光に対して第2偏光子から離れて対向する側上で偏光変化効果を有す る反射偏光子を設けられていることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 2.請求項1記載の液晶表示装置において、前記反射偏光子がコレステリックフ ィルタと複屈折層とを具えていることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 3.請求項2記載の液晶表示装置において、前記複屈折層の複屈折が層の厚さの 一部分にわたって調節できることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 4.請求項2記載の液晶表示装置において、前記コレステリックフィルタが可変 ピッチを有することを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 5.請求項1又は2記載の液晶表示装置において、該表示装置が前記反射偏光子 への垂線に対してある角で、液晶から離れて対向する前記反射偏光子の面上に 入射する放射線を主として広める放射線源を具えていることを特徴とする液晶 表示装置。 6.請求項1又は2記載の液晶表示装置において、前記反射偏光子と第2偏光子 との偏光の方向は実質的に直角で相互に交差していることを特徴とする液晶表 示装置。 7.請求項1又は2記載の液晶表示装置において、第2偏光子の側上で、前記反 射偏光子は偏光保持拡散層を設けられたことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 8.請求項1又は2記載の液晶表示装置において、該表示装置が前記液晶から離 れて対向する第1偏光子の面上に置かれた拡散層を具えていることを特徴とす る液晶表示装置。 9.請求項7記載の液晶表示装置において、前記拡散層が複屈折層として働くこ とを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 10.請求項1又は2記載の液晶表示装置において、前記反射偏光子の光学軸が 第2偏光子の平面への垂線に対して少なくとも局部的に傾けられていることを 特徴とする液晶表示装置。 11.第1表面において偏光方向を有する反射偏光子において、該反射偏光子が 前記第1表面において偏光保持拡散層を設けられ、且つ第1表面から離れて対 向する第2表面上の前記反射偏光子が前記第2表面への垂線に対してある角で 入射する光に対して偏光変化効果を有することを特徴とする反射偏光子。 12.請求項11記載の反射偏光子において、該反射偏光子がコレステリックフ ィルタと複屈折層とを具えていることを特徴とする反射偏光子。 13.請求項12記載の反射偏光子において、前記偏光保持拡散層が複屈折層と して働くことを特徴とする反射偏光子。 14.請求項11記載の反射偏光子において、前記反射偏光子が前記第2表面へ の垂線に対して少なくとも局部的に傾けられていることを特徴とする反射偏光 子。 15.請求項11記載の反射偏光子において、前記偏光保持拡散層が別の偏光層 を設けられていることを特徴とする反射偏光子。
