してアパーチャ3を生じ、前記化学変化が可逆的である
材料により形成されたマスク層13と、このマスク層1
3に光を照射したときにアパーチャ3にて生じるエバネ
ッセント場が到達可能な位置に設けられた記録層15と
を備えている。マスク層13において化学変化によりア
パーチャ3が形成されるので、アパーチャ3の開閉を高
速で行なうことができ、情報の高速転送が可能となる。
Description

あるいは光学読出し、またはこれら両方に使用される光
学試料体並びにその書込みおよび読出し方法に関するも
のである。
用いて高密度記録を行うために種々の方式が開発されて
いる。たとえば、雑誌「エレクトロニクス」(オーム社
発行)の1998年10月号、第100〜102頁、あ
るいは論文誌「 Applied Physics Latters, Vol.73, N
o.15, 12 October 1998, pp.2078-2080」には、光メモ
リに対するエバネッセント場を使用した読み取り方法あ
るいは書き込み方法が開示されている。この方法を図4
に基づいて説明する。
1は、基板111上に、保護層112、マスク層11

料Ge2 Sb2 Te5 が使用され、マスク層113には
アンチモン膜が使用されている。

される。アンチモン膜(マスク層113)では、照射さ
れたレーザスポットの中心に対応する高温部分の屈折率

チャ103は、マスク層113における光の透過率が高
くなるように変化した部分である。したがって、例えば
光ディスク101からの情報の読み取り時において、上
記アパーチャ103を通じて記録層115に記録された
マーク104が読み出される。
護層114の厚みは、アパーチャ103によって発生し
たエバネッセント場105が記録層115に到達可能な
距離に設定されている。これにより、100nm以下の
記録マークを記録あるいは再生することができる。
構成では、マスク層113において、アンチモン膜の結
晶状態からアモルファス状態への相転移を利用してアパ
ーチャ103を形成してるため、温度変化に対してアパ
ーチャ103の開閉速度を十分に高めることができな
い。したがって、線速度の増加に応じたアパーチャ10
3の開閉速度の増加が困難であり、情報の高速転送によ
る記録再生が不可能であるという問題点を招来してい
る。

試料体は、図1(a)に示す光ディスク1として構成さ
れている。この光ディスク1は、基板11上に、保護層
(第1の保護層)12、マスク層13、保護層(第2の
保護層)14、記録層(試料層)15および保護層16
がこの順序に成膜されている。

集光されたレーザビーム1が光ディスク1に照射され、

(b)に示すように、マスク層13の温度分布5におい
て、しきい値6を越えた高温部分7が生じ、この高温部
分7の酸化銀が化学変化し、即ち酸素と銀に分解し、屈
折率が変化する。これによってマスク層13にスポット
径よりも小さな、屈折率変化領域としてのアパーチャ3
が発生する。したがって、このアパーチャ3を通じて、
即ちアパーチャ3にて発生するエバネッセント場により
記録膜15に記録マーク4を書き込み、またこの記録マ
ーク4を読み出すことができる。
温度や照射される光量の変化により化学変化してアパー
チャ3を形成するため、このアパーチャ3を形成する際
の反応速度はピコ秒オーダーである。したがって、化学
変化によりアパーチャ3が形成される酸化銀をマスク層
13の材料として用いることにより、結晶状態からアモ
ルファス状態への相転移を利用してアパーチャ3が形成
される例えばアンチモンをマスク層13の材料といて用
いる場合よりも、高速にてアパーチャ3の開閉を行うこ
とができる。
なう記録再生装置は、図2のブロック図に示す構成とな
っている。この記録再生装置は、光学ピックアップ2
1、レーザ駆動回路22、記録回路23、再生回路2
4、スピンドルモータ25および回転制御回路26を備
えている。
への情報の記録時には、記録回路23から出力された記
録信号が、レーザ駆動回路22を経て、光学ピックアッ
プ21が備える半導体レーザー送られ、相対的に強い強
度のレーザビーム2として出力される。光学ピックアッ
プ21は対物レンズ(図示せず)を備え、この対物レン
ズによりレーザビーム2を光ディスク1上にレーザスポ
ットとして集光させる。
から相対的に弱い強度のレーザビーム2が光ディスク1
に照射され、その反射光が光学ピックアップ21内のフ
ォトディテクタにて電気信号に変換され、再生回路24
にて再生される。
駆動回路22において行われ、この光量調整により、光
ディスク1のマスク層13においてエバネッセント場が
適切に制御される。また、スピンドルモータ25、即ち
光ディスク1の回転は、回転制御回路26からスピンド
ルモータ25へ出力される制御信号により、所定の回転
数に制御される。
した記録再生方法について、以下に説明する。前述のよ
うに、光ディスク1に光学ピックアップ21によってレ
ーザビーム2が照射され、マスク層13にレーザスポッ
トが照射されると、マスク層13におけるレーザスポッ
トの中心部に相当する部分が高温となり、この高温部分
の酸化銀(マスク層13)が化学変化する。この化学変
化により、酸化銀(マスク層13)は、屈折率が変化
し、これによってレーザスポット径よりも小さなアパー
チャ3が発生する。

高密度記録されたデータを高いS/Nのもとで高速に再
生することができる。

とについて、比較試験を行なった結果を図3に示す。

けることは、マスク層13の化学変化によって基板11
や記録膜15が破壊されるのを防止する上において好ま
しい。この構成により、マスク層13において安定した
化学変化を発生させることができる。
記録に適用した例を示したが、本発明はこれに限らず顕
微鏡や高精度のリニアスケールなど、試料層の情報等を
マスク層を介して読み出すように構成できる幅広い分野
に適用することが可能である。

うになっているので、このアパーチャの開閉動作を高速
にて行なうことができる。

スク層における前記試料層側の面とは反対側の面に第1
の保護層が設けられ、前記マスク層における前記試料層
側の面に第2の保護層が設けられている構成である。

より、マスク層の化学変化によってマスク層の両側の
層、例えば基板や試料層が破壊される事態を防止するこ
とができるという効果を奏する。

記マスク層に光ビームを照射し、マスク層に局所的な前
記屈折率変化領域を生じさせ、この屈折率変化領域にて
生じるエバネッセント場と前記試料層との相互作用によ
り試料層からの読み出しを行なう構成である。

的な前記屈折率変化領域を生じさせ、この屈折率変化領
域にて生じるエバネッセント場と前記試料層との相互作
用により試料層に対する情報の書き込みまたは読み出し
を行なう構成である。
作および読出し動作においては、マスク層の化学変化に
より屈折率変化領域、即ち光学的なアパーチャの開閉動
作を高速にて行なうことができるので、光学試料体(例
えば光記録媒体としての光ディスク)の試料層(例えば
記録層)に対する情報の書き込みおよび読み出しを高速
化することができるという効果を奏する。

- 【請求項1】熱あるいは光照射により化学変化を起こし
て屈折率変化領域を生じ、前記化学変化が可逆的である
材料により形成されたマスク層と、 このマスク層に光を照射したときに前記屈折率変化領域
にて生じるエバネッセント場が到達可能な位置に設けら
れた試料層とを備えていることを特徴とする光学試料
体。 - 【請求項2】熱あるいは光照射により化学変化を起こし
て屈折率変化領域を生じ、前記化学変化が可逆的である
材料により形成されたマスク層と、 このマスク層に光を照射したときに前記屈折率変化領域
にて生じるエバネッセント場が到達可能な位置に設けら
れ、光学的変化を生じることにより情報を記録可能な試
料層とを備えていることを特徴とする光学試料体。 - 【請求項3】前記マスク層は酸化銀、酸化アンチモンあ
るいは酸化テルルからなることを特徴とする請求項1ま
たは2に記載の光学試料体。 - 【請求項4】前記マスク層における前記試料層側の面と
は反対側の面に第1の保護層が設けられ、前記マスク層
における前記試料層側の面に第2の保護層が設けられて
いることを特徴とする請求項1から3の何れかに記載の
光学試料体。 - 【請求項5】請求項1に記載の光学試料体を使用し、 前記マスク層に光ビームを照射し、マスク層に局所的な
前記屈折率変化領域を生じさせ、この屈折率変化領域に
て生じるエバネッセント場と前記試料層との相互作用に
より試料層からの読み出しを行なうことを特徴とする光
学試料体の読出し方法。 - 【請求項6】請求項2に記載の光学試料体を使用し、 前記マスク層に光ビームを照射し、マスク層に局所的な
前記屈折率変化領域を生じさせ、この屈折率変化領域に
て生じるエバネッセント場と前記試料層との相互作用に
より試料層に対する情報の書き込みまたは読み出しを行
なうことを特徴とする光学試料体の書込み読出し方法。
