Abstract

Fuel waste containing water is passed through a screw press (1) which removes the water and compresses and extrudes the solid matter in a continuous length (10). The end of the screw is conical and a longitudinal slot is formed in the screw housing in this conical region. A toothed guide wheel (9) is fitted into the slot so that its teeth (8) engage the screw thread (20). These teeth clean both the screw thread and keep the press outlet clear. The outlet (3) has an extension with radially expansible walls (21) formed by longitudinal slits.
