1034. Tirlicien, J. G., and Buronfosse, A. A. Jan. 16, 1908, [Convention date]. Extrusion machines.-An apparatus for compressing highly moist or elastic materials, such as peat, coal, &c., comprises a vertical mixer a and an horizontal moulding - chamber d fitted with a double-threaded screw m and provided in its lower portion with quincuncially arranged slots i within which are mounted rollers j formed with wing portions adapted to project into the hollows o of the screw m. Oppositely-inclined arms c<1>, c<2> are mounted on the lower part of the shaft b of the mixer a to produce a violent beating and mixing of the material and to direct it towards the moulding- chamber. One end of the screw m is placed against the shaft b so as to facilitate the feeding of the material. The rollers j are mounted upon shafts k which are rotated by bevel-gearing, the rotation of each roller being so timed that the wings of the rollers project into hollows o of the screw m, causing a powerful compression of the material, and expression of water, which passes through the slots i into a trough d'. The compressed material is extruded through a suitable die n.
