Abstract

Waste water treatment process comprising (1) electroylsis using an Fe anode to coalesce contaminants inside a flocculate originating from Fe hydroxide formation by electrolytic dissolution of anode, followed by (2) sepn. of contaminant-contg. coagulate, takes place by (a) using, as Fe anode, an electrode of an insol. material and a body of Fe pieces in electrical contact therewith, and (b) oxidising the contaminant-contg. flocculate to convert the Fe hydroxide into a magnetic Fe cpd. Process is espursed for treating hexavalent Cr ion-contg. waste waters with redn. of Cr6+ to Cr3+ and also for purification of waste waters contg. heavy metal ions in general, organic matls. suspended matter, SiO2, dyes.
