Abstract

1402662 Change-speed control CHRYSLER UNITED KINGDOM Ltd 13 Dec 1973 [18 Jan 1973] 2645/73 Heading F2D A gear lever 14 for a transversely mounted engine in a motor vehicle is mounted so that movements of the engine-gear-box unit 10 in the direction 11 do not result in appreciable movements of the knob 20. A bracket 16 to which the lever is pivoted at 17 is rotatable about a shaft 27 so that a selector rod 12 is rotatable about its axis and displaceable lengthwise by movements of the gear lever in mutually perpendicular planes. The shaft 27 is supported by pins 25 at the lower ends of links 24 which converge towards fixed pivots 23 so that the bracket is constrained to swing approximately in an arc of which the centre coincides with the centre 21 of the knob when the latter is in neutral position. One link 30 of a pair of links interconnecting the lower ends of the links 24 is connected by a rod (not shown) to the gear-box housing. A modification employs a pair of fixed plates with arcuate slots in which the pins 25 slide, in place of the links 24.
