Abstract

1,010,958. Change-speed control. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. June 12, 1964, No. 24411/64. Heading F2D. A manual gear-shift lever 4 is universally mounted on the rear la of a gear-box housing 1 and controls the selector mechanism through two substantially axially movable rods 2, 3. Axial movement of the rod 2 rotates a selector arm (not shown) into engagement with one of three selector rods (not shown) and axial movement of the rod 3 moves the selected selector rod axially to engage the respective gear. The gear lever 4 is pivotally mounted on a stud 9 supported on a bracket 8 which is pivotally mounted about an axis A in a second bracket 5 which is bolted to the rear of the gear-box housing. Bracket 8 is fast with a stud 6 carrying a finger 10 which engages a notch in an arm 11a of a bell-crank lever 11 which is pivoted about a stud 14 and has its other arm connected to the rod 2. Pivoting of the gear lever about the axis A rotates the bracket 8 and stud 6 and consequently through the bell-crank lever 11 shifts the rod 2 substantially axially. The lower end 4c of the gear lever 4 is located in a slot in one arm of a lever 12 which is pivoted at 13 to the bracket 5. The slot extends parallel to the stud 9 so that pivoting of the gear lever about the axis. A will not cause the lever 12 to move. Pivoting of the gear lever about the stud 9 rotates the lever 12 about the pivot 13 and consequently shifts the rod 3 substantially axially since it is connected to the lower end of the lever 12.
