Abstract
1,008,096. Change-speed control. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Aug. 7, 1964, No. 32171/64. Heading F2D. In a remote manual gear-shift mechanism in a motor vehicle, transverse and fore-and-aft movements of a shift lever 1 respectively effect sliding cross-shift and rotary gear establishment movements of a striker arm 3 through a rod 2 connected at its ends, through Hooke's joints 14a, 14b and 16a and 16b, to spigots 13, 17 rotatably retained in sockets 10, 20, which are respectively secured to a sleeve 6 pivoted in a transversely bored fixed bush 7 and pivotally supporting the shift lever for transverse movement and to a slidable and rotatable shaft on which the striker arm is secured, the spigots 13, 17 being respectively secured to an arm 12 linked at 8 to the end of the shift lever and to a pin 19 the end 19b of which engages a fixed recess 21 so that rotation of the rod 2 by transverse shift lever movement moves the socket 20 bodily transversely due to the angular movement of the pin about its end 19b and cross-shifts the striker arm 3. The rod 2 has a joint 2a for length adjustment. The pin 19 is replaceable being clamped in a slot 18 of the joint yoke 16b by the spigot 17 detachably bolted thereto.
