Improvements in needl«-bede for domestic knitting machines B PISAL (PROPRIETARY) kIMIfID G. 30256 THIS invention relates to domestic knitting machines having needle beds of box form for a series of needles or sinkers.

The beds of these machines are usually made of sheet metal with guiding means for needles or sinkers, consisting of a series of slots formed in the upper plate of the bed, which slidably receives the butts of the needles or sinkers.

The camslide which, as it is oscillated along the bed, projects and retracts the needles or sinkers, is usually engaged in guides on the upper plate, which are added to the plate and secured in position.

The object of the present invention is to provide a needle bed with which the camslide may be directly engaged and which is, therefore, simpler in construction than the usual arrangement.

According to the invention, the upper plate of the bed overhangs the bed at both back and front of the bed, and each overhang constitutes a guide for the camslide.

. Various forms of the invention are illustrated in the accompanying drawings. In Figure 1, the bed is a box composed of a trough-shaped base 10, which may be unitary or made up of different parts connected together, and an upper plate 12 secured to inwardly turned flanges 14 on the sides 16 of the trough. The plate 12 projects beyond the trough to provide flanges 18 which are engaged by the camslide 20 which is formed with recesses 21 engaged over the flanges 18, to permit the camslide to be oscillated freely but without significant play.

In Figure 2, both flanges 14 are directed forwardly. In Figure 3, both flanges 14 are directed rearwardly. In Figure 4, the flanges 14 are both turned outwardly. In Figure 5, there is a double flange 22 at the top of each side, each secured to the plate 12.

All the constructions serve the same purpose, namely, to provide guides for the camslide without structure additional to the upper plate.
