1426080 Acrylic conjugate filaments SNAM PROGETTI SpA 30 July 1973 [31 July 1972] 36254/73 Heading B5B A continuous filament yarn in which each filament comprises a plurality of conjugate components formed of acrylic homo- and/or copolymers having different chemical or physical characteristics is drawn at a draw ratio of 1 : 3 to 1 : 10 in water at 90‹ to 100‹ C. or in steam at 100‹ to 180‹ C.; subjected while under tension to a temperature of 80‹ to 170‹ C. for a time of 0À2 to 20 seconds; and the drawn yarn collected. Each component in the filament may be a copolymer of acrylonitrile, methyl acrylate and sodium methallyl sulphonate. In an example, a dry-spun two component yarn is drawn to a ratio of 5 : 1 during passage from feed rolls 2 through a steam oven 3 at 150‹ C. to rollers 4; the rollers 4 are heated to 140‹ C. and the yarn is wound on them for 20 turns, producing a yarn of 50 denier having a shrinkage in water at 100‹ C. of 15%. In general, yarn so made has a shrinkage in water at 100‹ C. of 12 to 30% [GB1426080A]
