Abstract

1426079 Acrylic conjugate filaments SNAM PROGETTI SpA 30 July 1973 [31 July 1972] 36253/73 Heading B5B A continuous filament yarn in which each filament comprises a plurality of conjugate components formed of acrylic homo- and/or co-polymers having different chemical or physical characteristics is subjected under tension before drawing to a temperature of 100‹ to 250‹ C. for 0À2 to 20 sees.; drawn at a draw ratio of from 1 : 3 to 1 : 6, and the drawn yarn collected. Each component in the filaments may be a copolymer of acrylonitrile, methyl acrylate and sodium methallyl sulphonate, and the preferred temperature range is 140‹ to 220‹ C. In an example, a dry-spun two component yarn is passed around a first pair of rollers 2 which are heated to 200‹ C., wrapped around the rollers for 15 turns, and then drawn to a draw ratio of 4 : 1 by the rollers 3, to produce a yarn of 120 den. having a shrinkage in water at 100‹ C. of 21%. In general, yarn so made has a shrinkage in water at 100‹ C. of 12 to 30%. [GB1426079A]
