Abstract

1466859 Boots &c CLARKS Ltd 25 June 1974 [18 July 1973] 34541/73 Heading A3B An article of footwear includes a moulded sole unit 10 which has at its outer upper edge a laterally outwardly projecting flange 11 extending about the full length of the periphery of the unit so as to form a laterally facing rebate beneath the flange, the lower edge portion 16 of an upper 14 being turned outwardly and secured to the upper surface of the flange. The unit 10 may be located in a platform 12 which is mounted on a jack in a lasting machine. The upper 14, disposed about a last 15, is lasted to the sole unit, the edge 16 being temporarily secured to the flange 11, e.g. by staples or adhesive. After permanently securing by stitching, the edges of the margin and flange are trimmed. A sock 17 covering the top surface of the sole unit may be sewn in position between the edge 16 and the flange 11. The sole unit may be moulded from polyurethane as a wedge heel, as shown, its outer surfaces having a leather grain effect. [GB1466859A]
