1427023 Meat production LAIROSE Ltd 14 Sept 1973 [23 Sept 1972] 44119/72 Heading AIM A meat producing method comprises feeding a water diluted liquid sugar to animals, allowing them to assimilate the sugar so that glycogen collects in the tissue, and slaughtering the animals while the glycogen is still present so that lactic acid is produced. An apparatus for the treatment of meat-producing animals comprises drinking troughs 1, a main water pipe 9 which discharges into a water tank 3 through a float valve 15 and also feeds the mixing tank 2 via a pipe 4 and hand valve 11. Liquid sugar stored in tank 12, is pumped into tank 2 and mixed with water in amounts measured by meter 6. The tank 3 supplies the troughs 1 with water through pipe 18, manifold 19 and branch pipes 20, the flow being controlled by solenoid valves 21 and float valves 23. The mixing tank 2 supplies water and liquid sugar mixture to the troughs 1 through a similar system as shown. In operation, predetermined volumes of liquid sugar and water mixture are fed to the troughs 1 followed after a predetermined time by flushing water from tank 3 to prevent clogging. Recirculation of the liquid sugar is achieved through pipe 7 connected to pipe 4. Handvalves 8 and 14 control recirculation and supply respectively of the liquid sugar.
