Abstract

1363576 Anodizing Ti TITANIUM G P 5 April 1972 [5 April 1971] 15600/72 Heading C7B In a process for forming a porous protective layer of TiO 2 on Ti or Ti alloy the Ti or alloy is subjected to anodic oxidation in an aqueous solution containing 6-35 wt per cent H 2 SO 4 and 0À7-8À5 wt per cent HCl. The solution may also contain 30-200 g/l HClO 4 and/or 20-150 g/l HNO 3 . The cathode may be Ti or Zr or an alloy based on one of these metals. The voltage is less than 48v established at a rate not exceeding 20v per min. The anodic layer may be impregnated with a lubricant, such as calcium stearate + 10% MoS 2 , or sealed with a resin.
