Abstract
1,127,160. Anodizing aluminium to form coloured surfaces. SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO. Ltd. Dec.20, 1966 [Dec.27, 1965; Oct.15, 1966], No.56941/66. Heading C7B. A method of producing a coloured anodic oxide film on aluminium or aluminium alloys comprises anodizing said aluminium in an electrolyte comprising an aqueous solution containing 1À5- 40 wt.% naphtalenedisulphonic acid and 0À1- 3.0 wt. % sulphuric acid at an initial cell voltage of at least 20 volts. Preferably the electrolysis is carried out using a current density of 1-3 A/dm<SP>2</SP> and at a temperature of 15-30C.
