Abstract

1304043 Chemical milling of titanium ARMCO STEEL CORP 19 March 1970 [20 March 1969] 13337/70 Heading C7E Ti and Ti-based alloys are chemically milled by treatment in an aqueous solution of 2 to less than 10 volume % HF and 1-10% HCl, the remainder being water, at 65-140‹F. Milling may be by immersion for 5-25 minutes, and any smut remaining may be removed by immersion in aqueous HNO 3 /HF. Badly scaled Ti may be pretreated in a NaOH-based melt or by flashpickling with H 2 SO 4 .
