Abstract
1411072 Anodizing tantalum SPRAGUE ELECTRIC CO 20 May 1974 [18 May 1973 (2)] 22339/74 Heading C7B [Also in Division H1] In a batch process for manufacturing tantalum solid electrolytic capacitors a plurality of sintered tantalum pellets 14 each provided with a tantalum lead 12 and lap or butt welded to a carrier bar made of an alloy consisting of aluminium and 1 to 6 wt per cent magnesium, or of a composition consisting of 2 to 15% by volume of alumina dispersed in aluminium, an anodic oxide layer is deposited on the Ta using as electrolyte a 0.1% aq. solution of NH 4 .H 2 PO 4 . Since the bar has valve metal properties it does not matter if it dips in the forming bath for dielectric oxide and accordingly the lead wires may be <SP>3</SP>/8 inch or less.
