Abstract

1,245,820. Anodizing Al and Al base alloys. MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO. Ltd. Dec. 3, 1968, No. 57391/68. Heading C7B. Al or an Al base alloy is anodically oxidized to form an electrically insulating film thereon using a voltage such that spark discharge occurs at the anode, while intensely agitating the electrolyte, the ratio of the surface area of the cathode to the surface area of the anode being at least 10:1. The voltage may be between that at which spark discharge begins and 50 volts thereabove. The electrolyte may be sulphuric, chromic, oxalic or phosphoric acid. The Al may be in the form of a wire or strand.
