Abstract

1290769 Fishing nets RAPP FABRIKKER A/S 10 Aug 1970 [13 Aug 1969] 38497/70 Heading A1A [Also in Division B8] One end 17 of a purse seine fishing line is frictionally hauled in against the reaction of the other end 16 of such line by a winch unit 6 suspended in a submerged position in the water by a cable 3 extending from a boat 1, the seine line portion 20 passing out of the winch unit 6 being hauled up by a winch unit 22 on the boat. The unit 6 comprises a pair of drums 8 around which the line is looped several times and which are driven by an hydraulic motor 7 supplied from a pump 10 on the boat, through lines 14, the drums 8 including pawl and ratchet mechanisms 26 normally preventing pay out of the seine line. The hauling capacity of the winch unit 6 is variable in relation to the tension applied to the line portion 20 departing therefrom. The unit 6 and its associated fishing gear is raised to the surface by the cable 3 actuated by a winch 2, but alternatively the winch 22 and seine line portion 20 may be used for such raising operation. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown) the submerged winch unit is used for hauling a scraper along the sea bed, the hauling force being reacted against an anchor line attached to the winch unit. The submerged winch unit in both the above embodiments may utilise a single drum as shown in Fig. 3 (not shown). [GB1290769A]
