Abstract
1297771 Escape apparatus, overhead railways; boat raising and lowering gear RFD-GQ Ltd and MOBELL MARINE DEVELOPMENT CO Ltd 13 May 1970 [13 May 1969] 24407/69 Headings B7L and B7S Apparatus for escaping from a deep sea oil rig 1 comprises a cable 2 which extends between the rig 1 and anchoring means 3, 4, 5 on the sea bed. Normally cable 2 is held in an inoperative position by a pulley 22 intermediate its ends being pulled into a pulley 18 on the rig 1 by a housing cable 19. When the restraint of cable 19 on cable 2 is removed the cable 2 straightens out under the influence of a weight 23. A liferaft 26 can then be lowered down the cable 2. The raft 26 has a painter 35 attached to cable 2. The cable 2 is attached to a drum 8 on the rig 1 to which drum is also fixed a cable 24 holding the weight 23. Thus when there is no restraint by cable 19 on cable 2 the weight 23 moves down, thus rotating the drum 8 and straightening the cable 2. The housing cable leads from pulley 22 round pulley 18 to a braked housing winch 21.
