Abstract

1285952 Free piston engines A BRAUN 21 July 1969 [22 July 1968] 36496/69 Headings F1B and F1M An unsymmetrical free piston engine comprises a movable assembly including a power piston 17 arranged for reciprocating movement in a power cylinder 16 and a connection 48 from the movable assembly to enable a movable member of a load 14 to move with the assembly as a unit. A synchronizer balancer assembly includes a counterbalancing movable portion 62 and a coupling 63, 64 between the counterbalancing movable portion and the movable assembly for causing reciprocating movement of the counterbalancing movable portion 62 in a direction opposite to the direction of movement of the movable assembly and in synchronization therewith, the synchronizerbalancer coupling being disposed between the power piston and the connection 48. In a modification a control cylinder 55 is positioned adjacent the engine cylinder. The energy absorbing device 14 may be a pump, a generator, a power saw or a double acting compressor.
