A metal shelving assembly comprises flat topped shelves 10 (Fig. 3) having depending peripheral flanges 20, 22 defining recessed corners 38, retaining apertures 44, 46 and 48 formed respectively in lower portions 28, 36 of the anges 20, 22 and in the shelf top, channel section uprights 12 (Fig. 7) formed with spaced apertures 56, and shelf retaining clips 64, the latter being secured by nuts and bolts 80, 82 selectively engaging the apertures 56 with vertically disposed tabs 76, 74 and 78 (Fig. 4) engaged in the retaining apertures 44, 46 and 48 whereby the flange ends are clamped against the uprights 12. One form of clip 64 (Fig. 4) includes a stiffening shoulder 72 serving to prevent rotation of the nut 82 on assembly, an upper edge 90 for bearing on the underside of the shelf 10, and cam surfaces 86, 88 to guide the clip 64 on assembly. Other forms of clip (Figs. 5, 6 not shown) are attached to the shelf by upward movement only and include hook like means for releasable locking to the shelf flanges. The shelf 10 has a raised front rim 32 and the whole assembly is collapsible. Uprights 12 may be joined end-to-end by a connecting member 59 (Fig. 13) fitted within the uprights and secured by nuts and bolts 77, 79.
