Abstract
A process for preparing adhesive and sealing substances comprises combining, immediately before use, a glycidyl polyether resin containing a curing agent known to be effective for curing or hardening liquid rubber with a mixture of an unvulcanized liquid rubber having groups capable of reacting with the epoxy groups of the glycidyl polyether resin and a curing agent known to be effective for curing the epoxy resin. The glycidyl polyether resins may be derived from any dihydric or polyhydric alcohol or from any dihydric phenol. Epoxy resin curing agents specified are amines including phenolic amines and polyamides. Liquid rubbers specified are (A) polysulphide rubbers, (B) terpolymeric rubbers such as butadiene-styrene-methacrylic acid or butadiene-acrylonitrile-methacrylic acid and (C) chlorinated polyethylenes containing chlorosulphonic acid groups. Curing agents for the specified rubbers may be (A) organic or inorganic peroxides; (B) sulphur, zinc oxide or sulphide and mercaptobenzothiazole; and (C) organic or inorganic peroxides or inorganic oxides. Fillers, extenders, solvents and plasticizers may be premixed with either component.
