Abstract

In order to determine whether an epoxy resin and its curing agent are properly admixed, a dye having the properties of an acid-base indicator and which is soluble in the curing agent and/or the epoxy resin is first mixed with the resin and the curing agent is added subsequently, whereby on complete mixing of the resin and curing agent a uniform deep colour is obtained. Preferably the dye is insoluble in the resin. If the dye is poorly soluble in the resin or curing agent, a solvent for the due may be added (e.g. a phenol, complex amine, glycol, mono-ether of a glycol, ketone, ester, ether (e.g. tetrahydrofuran), chlorinated hydrocarbon, nitrile or monoepoxide). The Specification contains long lists of epoxy resins and curing agents. Fillers, pigments, plasticizers, rubbers, and other resins may also be added. Examples disclose adhesive composition containing (a) a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A, (b) a curing agent which is an amino-polyamide, N,N1-diethyl-3-amino propylamine (or a mixture thereof with N-(2-amino-ethyl)-piperazine), ethylene diamine or triethylene tetramine, (c) a mixture of aluminium powder and asbestos, (d) a colour changing dye and, possibly, (e) ethylene glycol or the monoethyl ether of diethylene glycol.
