Abstract

998,527. Can carrier; packages. CONTAINER CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Feb. 4, 1963 [Feb. 27, 1962], No. 4394/63. Headings B8C and B8P. A sleeve type carton for holding two parallel, opposing rows of cylindrical objects, is formed from a unitary blank of foldable paperboard and comprises opposing pairs of end and side walls 10, 18 and 14 respectively which enclose the ends and sides of the articles, one of said end walls 18 having a V-shaped longitudinally disposed, centre-retaining member 20 extending into the carton between the two rows of articles and said member including a pair of outwardlydiverging strips 26 inclined relative to the wall 18 and having longitudinally spaced openings 36 to receive the ends of the articles. In the two embodiments illustrated in Figs. 1 and 6, the retaining member is formed from extensions 22, 26 on the bottom end wall panels 18, extensions 22 being adhered together and extensions 26 having openings 36 and in the case of Fig. 6, the extension 26 has further extensions 40 between the indentations 28 which are adhered to the base panel 18. In the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 13, the centre retaining member is formed from extensions 70, 76, 78 on only one of the panels 18, the openings 36 being formed by arc cut from the extension 76. Triangular flaps 34 in the walls 10, 18 are cut along 2 sides and are pressed inwards to engage with the articles and holes 32 are cut to facilitate handling of the package. In a modification, the centre retaining member 20 may extend downwardly from co-planar panels of the top wall.
