Abstract

1,211,749. Can wrappers. CONTINENTAL CAN CO. Inc. 17 Jan., 1968 [18 Jan., 1967], No. 2459/68. Heading B8C. A wrapper, for packaging churned cans arranged in two rows, forms an open-ended tubular structure and includes two overlapping and interlocking panels which form the wall adjacent the bottoms of the cans, one of the panels having a rib which is adapted to extend between the rows and tabs on either side of the rib which together with the rib prevent movement of the cans relative to the wrapper. As illustrated, the one panel 21 has a rib 41 with pockets 42 which receive the lower ends of the cans. Tabs 46, 48 and 55 folded to the positions shown in Fig. 1, engage within the chimes. Tongues 27 and catches 28 co-operate with apertures 50, 52 to interlock the two panels 20, 21. Tabs 43 of the panel 20 reinforce the rib (Fig. 5, not shown). The upper ends of four of the cans are held against movement by tabs 32, and the two rows are separated by tabs 31. The flaps defined by cuts 33, when depressed, facilitate gripping of the package. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,023,835.
