Abstract

998,012. Protective arrangements. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. March 15, 1963 [March 21, 1962], No. 10368/63. Heading H2K. In an arrangement in which a load 2 is supplied through one or more fuses 5 from a D.C. source 1 of limited output, current is supplied from an additional higher output, source 9 to ensure blowing of the or a fuse in in the event of overload. In Fig. 1, the source 9 is a battery which is maintained charged through a potentiometer 6, 7 and a rectifier 8 to a potential lower than that of the source 1 so that a further rectifier 10 is normally non- conducting. Should an overload occur, the drop in the terminal voltage of the source 1 causes the rectifier 10 to conduct and current flows from the battery 9 through the fuse 5 which is blown. Fig. 2 (not shown) illustrates an arrangement in which the additional source is provided by a capacitor which is maintained charged through the potentiometer and rectifier arrangement of Fig. 1. In each case the components 6 to 9 may be common to a number of branch circuits.
