Abstract

900,236. Protective cut-out arrangements. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. May 6, 1960 [May 11, 1959], No. 16154/60. Class 38 (5). A protective arrangement for a transistor through which a load current flows, e.g. a transistor voltage regulator 5, comprises a circuit-breaker 6 connected in the load circuit after the transistor and a capacitor C2 connected across the load circuit after the transistor and before the circuit-breaker, the capacitor C2 having a sufficiently large capacitance that the circuit-breaker has time to operate before the discharge of the capacitor C2 though a short-circuit path permits an excessive voltage to appear across the transistor. Thus in the arrangement shown, in the event of a short circuit between the output terminals 3, 4, the normally charged capacitor C2 discharges through the circuit-breaker and the fault path and prevents the instantaneous application of the full D.C. supply voltage to input terminals 1, 2 across the transistor voltage regulator 5.
