Abstract

951,318. Protective systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Nov. 9, 1962, No. 42441/62. Heading H2K. If the potential difference between two conductors 1, 2 falls below a predetermined value, the potential at the tapping point of a potential divider D, R, between the conductor 1 and a conductor 3 having a reference potential of opposite polarity, falls sufficiently to change the output path of a semi-conductor switch, e.g. transistor T, from a low conduction to a high conduction condition to operate a current responsive device indicating supply failure. The upper arm D of the divider preferably takes the form of a voltage limiting device such as a Zener diode. The polarities of conductors 1, 3 may be reversed when an N-P-N instead of a P-N-P transistor is employed and the diode D is reversed.
