Abstract
1,181,853. Overload protection for transistors. SOC. GENERALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES ET MECANIQUES (ALSTHOM). 3 June, 1967 [3 June, 1966], No. 25796/67. Heading H3T. [Also in Division H2] A transistor 2 is protected by connecting across it a thyristor 4 and firing it in dependence upon the voltage across an inductor 3 carrying the transistor current or a current representing it. Thus, should the load 1 become short-circuit, the rise of current will produce a sufficient voltage across inductor 4 to break down a Zener diode 6 and fire thyristor 4. A second thyristor 5 is also fired and this opens a relay contact 10 which operates a circuit-breaker. Contact 12 of the relay extinguishes thyristor 5. The circuit may be self-restoring. Zener diodes 7 and 8 protect the gate electrodes and Zener diode 6 also breaks down and effects the protection if the circuit voltage is too high. 13 is a fuse.
