Abstract

PURPOSE: To surely and quickly break a circuit, by combining relays and a thyristor with each other as circuit breaking elements, mechanically opening the circuit by the relays and accelerating the breaking with the thyristor.
CONSTITUTION: A current signal from a shunt 11 is compared with a setpoint by a current comparator 6. When the current signal has exceeded the setpoint, an overcurrent detection signal is produced and applied to a driving signal generator 8 to generate a protector driving signal. This driving signal is applied to a thyristor driving circuit 9 and a relay driving circuit 10. The thyristor driving circuit supplies a trigger voltage to the gate of the thyristor 3 to turn it on. The relay driving circuit energizes the coils of the relays 4a, 5a to open contacts 4b, 5b, 5c. Before the opening of these contacts, a power supply unit 1 is short- circuited by the turn-on of the thyristor 3 to prevent an overcurrent from flowing to a load 2.
